Social performance improvement and innovation performance improvement is rapidly developing an area of research. Little empirical research has been conducted on the social performance outcomes in Pakistan and other developing countries. This research contributes to understanding how relational governance relates to social and innovation performance improvement in exporter and importer relationships. The analysis is based on cross-sectional base survey questionnaires on a sample of 239 senior managers from four export manufacturer industries using square structural equation modelling approach. The findings of this study show that relational governance has a key role in ensuring the continuation of relationship as a means to support suppliers, resulting in improvements in social performance and innovation performance. Social performance improvement in supply chain relationship requires the commitment of significant resources to implement it. It is proposed that a cultural intelligence is improving information exchange among buyers and suppliers, and is the more appropriate context for social performance improvement. Further research is also required to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between an element of commitment and innovation performance improvement. Theoretical contributions, managerial implications and future research directions are also presented. read more read less

A hybrid MCDM model for evaluating the corporate image of the airline industry

In today's highly competitive airline industry it is acknowledged that having a preferred corporate image may have an impact on customer loyalty towards the firm. A good corporate image also provides a powerful way of differentiating a company from its competitors and to stimulate purchases, especially in the airline industry. However, in the past, corporate image was a vague concept that was difficult to measure quantitatively. Therefore, this paper proposed a hybrid MCDM model to evaluate corporate image. Factor analysis is initially used to extract some independent common factors, and the fuzzy integral is used to integrate the performance ratings of the interdependent attributes in each common factor. Then, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is adopted to determine the relative weights linking each independent common factor. Finally, a simple additive weight (SAW) method is used to evaluate corporate image and reputation. A study of international airlines is conducted for verification. The results of this study can help airlines understand their relative positions with competitors and develop better strategies to fulfill customers' needs. read more read less

As a result, during the last one year, we have seen a substantial decline in the profitability and liquidity of the financial services companies. In this paper, we analyse the financial performance of thirteen leading financial services firms to evaluate their relative standing in the industry. We illustrate the use of data envelopment analysis (DEA), an operations research technique, to evaluate the relative financial strength of thirteen financial services firms by benchmarking the financial ratios of a firm against its peers. DEA clearly brings out the firms that are operating more efficiently in comparison to other firms in the industry, and points out the areas in which poorly performing firms need to improve. read more read less

The paper introduces an internal information tool, the advanced cash conversion cycle (ACCC), for controlling the amount and cost of working capital, by refining and extending the concept of the weighted cash conversion cycle. The ACCC model has been developed with a real world value chain case from the pulp and paper industry, and it addresses issues overlooked in the prior model. The ACCC offers visibility through the value chain, elimination of the problem of a negative margin, a more simple calculation of accounts payables compared to the prior model, and new metrics to control working capital in companies. read more read less

A stochastic data envelopment analysis model using a common set of weights and the ideal point concept

The efficiency scores of the decision making units (DMUs) in conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) are between zero and one and generally several DMUs result in having efficiency scores of one. These models generally only rank the inefficient DMUs and not the efficient ones. In addition, conventional DEA models assume that inputs and outputs are measured precisely on a ratio scale. However, the observed values of the input and output data in real-life problems are often imprecise. In this paper, we propose a common set of weights (CSW) model for ranking the DMUs with the stochastic data and the ideal point concept. The proposed method minimises the distance between the evaluated DMUs and the ideal DMU. We also present a numerical example to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model and exhibit the efficacy of the procedures. read more read less
