In advanced exergy analysis, the exergy destruction within a component of an energy conversion system can be split into avoidable/unavoidable exergy destruction and endogenous/exogenous exergy destruction. A combination of these two concepts provides accurate information with respect to improving the overall system efficiency. Extended to exergoeconomics, the approach provides the costs associated with the avoidable endogenous and the avoidable exogenous exergy destruction and compares these costs with the respective investment costs. An exergoenvironmental analysis reveals the extent to which each component of a system is responsible for the overall environmental impact and identifies the real sources of the impact. read more read less

The dry organic fluids for this study were R227ea, RC318, R236fa, Isobutane, R600a, R245fa, HFE7000, R123 and R113. Effects of the operating parameters such as turbine inlet temperature and pressure on the thermal efficiency, exergy destruction rate and second-law efficiency were evaluated. The ORCs studied in this paper were regenerative ORC with IHE, regenerative ORC, ORC with IHE and basic ORC. read more read less

An exergetic analysis was performed for a 116-MW gas-turbine power plant. Mass and energy conservation laws were applied to each component of the system. Quantitative exergy balance for each component and for the whole system was considered. In this study, the exergy of a material stream is decomposed into thermal, mechanical and chemical exergy and an entropy-production flow. The effect of a change in the inlet turbine temperature on the exergetic efficiency and exergy destruction in the plant was evaluated. The crucial dependency of the exergetic efficiency and the exergy destruction on the change in the turbine inlet temperature was confirmed. read more read less

A numerical study is reported to investigate the entropy generation due to forced convection in a parallel plate channel filled by a saturated porous medium. Two different thermal boundary conditions are considered being isoflux and isothermal walls. Effects of the Peclet number, the porous medium shape factor, the dimensionless temperature difference for isothermal walls, the dimensionless heat flux for isoflux walls, and the Brinkman number on the Bejan number as well as the local and average dimensionless entropy generation rate are examined. read more read less

This study deals with energy, exergy and exergoeconomic analysis of an Aircraft Jet Engine (AJE) as named J69-T25A used on T-37B/C model training aircrafts. In the analyses, the engine data measured in the engine test cell at First Air Supply and Maintenance Center of Turkish Air Forces are used. Quantitative exergy and exergoeconomic cost balance equations are derived for each components of the engine and the overall J69-T25A engine. Exergy destructions within the engine components are investigated to determine thermodynamic inefficiencies. Cost balances and auxiliary equations are also applied to each components of the engine for observing cost formation. Additionally, exergy cost rate and unit exergy cost rate of each products of the engine are accounted. read more read less
