Exploring the acceptance for e–learning using technology acceptance model among university students in India

This paper examines the acceptance and behaviour of students towards e–learning using the technology acceptance model (TAM), within the framework of a course. The instrument used in the current study adopts the scale developed by Davis (1989). This study is set against a lack of consistent, detailed research on the factors influencing the acceptance of e–learning by students in India. In line with previous research, results suggest that TAM is a strong theoretical model (Ronnie et al., 2011), where its validity can extend to the e–learning context. Significant relationships were observed between perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, behavioural intention to use and actual use. Perceived usefulness strongly mediated perceived ease of use and attitude, while attitude mediated perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and behavioural intention to use e–learning. read more read less

In the recent past maintenance strategy has gained heightened importance in organisations and requires the manufacturing and maintenance managers to develop and follow well devised production and maintenance plans. Remarkable improvement has taken place in the maintenance management of physical assets and productive systems, to reduce wastage of energy and resources. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) methodology is a proven approach to increase overall performance of equipment. In the present paper, a method is proposed to evaluate OEE by including a factor known as usability, in the OEE calculation method. Further, an approach is developed to evaluate the earning capacity of addressing the six big losses, with incremental improvement in OEE, as an extension to the maturity of OEE. read more read less

In recent times manufacturing organisations have been witnessing stringent regulations from government towards environmental policies. In order to cope with the government rules and regulations, many organisations identified sustainable manufacturing as the principal solution. There exists a need to check the effectiveness of sustainability principles implementation. The effectiveness can be measured either using quantitative or qualitative approaches. In general sustainable manufacturing has been viewed in three perspectives namely: process, product and material. Among three orientations, process orientation gains attention as it forms the major contributor for the performance of sustainable concepts in the organisation. In order to assess the process orientation of manufacturing organisations, in this study we attempt to develop a checklist to measure the process orientation specifically. The checklist was developed based on triple bottom line (TBL) concept proposed by Elkington (1997). The checklist consists of 40 questions which covers all three Es of TBL namely: ecology, equity and economy. In order to check the practical usability of the developed checklist, the process sustainability characteristics were measured in five organisations across various sectors. read more read less

Today's volatile market, which is influenced by global competition and changing customers' demands, has made the manufacturing companies to look for new manufacturing systems which can fulfil their requirements for global competition. Agile manufacturing systems (AMSs) are those systems which are capable to meet the requirements of modern manufacturing industries. But adoption and implementation of AMSs is not an easy task. There are certain attributes which not only influence the implementation process but also influence each other. The main objective of this paper is to identify and analyse these attributes. In the present work, these attributes have been identified through the literature, their ranking is done by a questionnaire-based survey and fuzzy agility evaluation (FAE) approach has been utilised in analysing their mutual interaction. read more read less

Warehouse is a crucial part of firms' logistic system and plays an important role in delivering products from manufacturers to end consumers. Lean principles originated from manufacturing practice can be adapted to warehouse environment to enhance its productivity. The study was based on a multinational fast-moving consumer goods in Indonesia which relied on small and medium enterprises (SME) as their intermediaries to distribute its products throughout Indonesia. Lean warehousing techniques were used as a practical tool to introduce a good and efficient warehouse practice for its distributors. As a standardised framework for its distributors, the company introduced three stages for lean warehouse implementation, i.e., 'create stability', 'create flow', and 'make flow' in the warehouse. Implementation was done for the first two stages in one pilot distributor, resulting to 26% increase in picking productivity and a more balanced warehouse operation. Result will be used as a baseline and show-case for further implementations to the rest of its distributors. read more read less
