Liquid Sloshing Dynamics

Nowadays, the world’s scientific community has been publishing an enormous number of papers in different scientific fields. In such environment, it is essential to know which databases are equally efficient and objective for literature searches. It seems that two most extensive databases are Web of Science and Scopus. Besides searching the literature, these two databases used to rank journals in terms of their productivity and the total citations received to indicate the journals impact, prestige or influence. This article attempts to provide a comprehensive comparison of these databases to answer frequent questions which researchers ask, such as: How Web of Science and Scopus are different? In which aspects these two databases are similar? Or, if the researchers are forced to choose one of them, which one should they prefer? For answering these questions, these two databases will be compared based on their qualitative and quantitative characteristics.

A Comparison between Two Main Academic Literature Collections: Web of Science and Scopus Databases

How do scholars approach the circular economy? A systematic literature review

The introduction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into conventional fibre-reinforced polymer composites creates a hierarchical reinforcement structure and can significantly improve composite performance. This paper reviews the progress to date towards the creation of fibre reinforced (hierarchical) nanocomposites and assesses the potential for a new generation of advanced multifunctional materials. Two alternative strategies for forming CNT-based hierarchical composites are contrasted, the dispersion of CNTs into the composite matrix and their direct attachment onto the primary fibre surface. The implications of each approach for composite processing and performance are discussed, along with a summary of the measured improvements in the mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of the resulting hierarchical composites.

Carbon nanotube-based hierarchical composites: a review

An analysis is made of the results obtained in the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves propagating in initially stressed solids. Consideration is given to surface waves along planar and curvilinear boundaries and interfaces, waves in layers and cylinders, waves in composite materials, waves in hydroelastic systems, and dynamic problems for moving loads. The results were obtained in exact formulations.

The paper discusses the evaluation of scientific journals based on the Scopus database, information tools, and criteria. The SJR (SCImago Journal Rank) as the main criterion used by Scopus to evaluate scientific journals is considered. The Scopus and ISI systems are compared using information on the journal Prikladnaya Mekhanika (International Applied Mechanics), a number of world-known journals on mechanics, and some journals on natural sciences issued by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Some comments and proposals are formulated. This paper may be considered as a follow up on papers published in Prikladnaya Mekhanika (International Applied Mechanics) in 2005–2009

Scopus: A system for the evaluation of scientific journals

Theoretical and experimental works on acoustoelasticity are briefly generalized. Studies conducted and scientific results obtained at the S. P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics and E. O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are highlighted. Special features of these works and their difference from those of other authors are pointed out. The basic principles and laws governing the propagation of longitudinal, shear, and surface waves in bi- and triaxially stressed bodies are briefly stated with regard for the orthotropy and nonlinear properties of the material. The experimentally proven principles and laws for elastic waves propagating in initially stressed bodies are formulated. The physical fundamentals of the ultrasonic nondestructive technique for determining bi- and triaxial stresses in solids are described. The determination of bi- and triaxial residual stresses in specimens and structural members is demonstrated by examples. The basic principles of the related (dielectric and electromagnetic) methods for stress analysis of polymeric materials are stated. The application of the electromagnetic method to the stress analysis of some polymeric materials is considered

The Physical Fundamentals of the Ultrasonic Nondestructive Stress Analysis of Solids

An analysis of research available on the problem under consideration shows that at this time: a) Wave propagation in unbounded, bounded, and composite laminar bodies with homogeneous initial states has been studied sufficiently extensively; b) methods to determine the third-order elastic constants have been developed on the basis of existing theories; c) an ultrasonic nondestructive method to determine the stress in solids has been developed, where the stresses averaged over the bulk of the body are determined. In light of the above, in the authors' opinion, the following should be considered the most urgent questions for further investigations on the problem: a) the investigation of wave propagation regularities in bodies with inhomogeneous initial states (it is hence important to execute quantitative and qualitative analyses of the phenomenon); b) development of an ultrasonic nondestructive method of determining the stress in the near surface layers of a solid, which will afford a possibility of determining not only the membrane stresses but also the bending stresses; c) an investigation of the wave propagation regularities in fibrous composites with initial stresses.
