Present and future perspectives for high energy density physics with intense heavy ion and laser beams
Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,Abel Blazevic,P. Ni,O. N. Rosmej,Markus Roth,Naeem A. Tahir,Anna Tauschwitz,Serban Udrea,Dmitry Varentsov,K. Weyrich,Yitzhak Maron +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a beam-plasma interaction experiment was carried out using the heavy ion synchrotron at the GSI, Darmstadt, Germany! accelerator with two high-energy laser systems: petawatt high energy laser for ion experiments (PHELIX! and nanosecond high energy LEM) and NHELIX!.
Journal ArticleDOI
Commissioning and early experiments of the PHELIX facility
Vincent Bagnoud,Bastian Aurand,A. Blazevic,Stefan Borneis,C. Bruske,B. Ecker,B. Ecker,U. Eisenbarth,J. Fils,A. Frank,Erhard Gaul,S. Goette,Constantin Haefner,T. Hahn,K. Harres,H.-M. Heuck,D. C. Hochhaus,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,D. Javorková,Hans-Jürgen Kluge,Thomas Kuehl,S. Kunzer,M. Kreutz,T. Merz-Mantwill,Paul Neumayer,E. Onkels,D. Reemts,O. N. Rosmej,Markus Roth,T. Stoehlker,T. Stoehlker,Anna Tauschwitz,Bernhard Zielbauer,D. Zimmer,D. Zimmer,K. Witte +35 more
TL;DR: The Petawatt High Energy Laser for heavy Ion eXperiments (PHELIX) as discussed by the authors has been commissioned for operation in stand-alone mode and, in combination with ions accelerated up to an energy of 13 MeV/u by the heavy ion accelerator UNILAC enables a large variety of unique experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI
The status of the Super-FRS in-flight facility at FAIR
M. Winkler,H. Geissel,Helmut Weick,B. Achenbach,K.-H. Behr,D. Boutin,A. Brünle,M. Gleim,W. Hüller,C. Karagiannis,A. Kelic,Birgit Kindler,E. Kozlova,H. Leibrock,Bettina Lommel,G. Moritz,C. Mühle,G. Münzenberg,C. Nociforo,W. R. Plass,C. Scheidenberger,Herbert A. Simon,K. Sümmerer,Naeem A. Tahir,Anna Tauschwitz,M. Tomut,J. S. Winfield,Mikhail I. Yavor +27 more
TL;DR: The Super-FRS is a large acceptance device utilizing large-aperture superconducting magnets and employing multiple degrader stages to provide monoisotopic nuclear beams as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shock compression of condensed matter using intense beams of energetic heavy ions
Naeem A. Tahir,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,A. Kozyreva,A. Shutov,Joachim A. Maruhn,U. Neuner,Anna Tauschwitz,Peter Spiller,R. Bock +8 more
TL;DR: Simulations show that this upgraded heavy-ion beam is capable of generating strong shocks in solid targets that compress the target material to supersolid densities and generate multi-mbar pressures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beam collimation and transport of quasineutral laser-accelerated protons by a solenoid field
K. Harres,I. Alber,Anna Tauschwitz,Vincent Bagnoud,Hiroyuki Daido,M. Günther,F. Nürnberg,A. Otten,Marius Schollmeier,J. Schütrumpf,Motonobu Tampo,Markus Roth +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the beam divergence and energy of laser-accelerated proton beams with respect to beam divergence was analyzed and it was shown that the high flux electron beam produces a high space charge resulting in a stronger focusing of the proton beam than expected by tracking results.
