Simulation in urology : a role for virtual reality?
TL;DR: The teaching of surgical skills has traditionally followed the Halstedian master-apprenticeship model, where surgeons learn to operate on the philosophy of `see one, do one, teach one', but healthcare provision has changed, as has surgical education.

REACT-1 round 13 final report: exponential growth, high prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and vaccine effectiveness associated with Delta variant in England during May to July 2021
Paul Elliott,D Haw,Haowei Wang,Oliver Eales,Caroline E. Walters,Kylie E. C. Ainslie,Christina Atchison,Claudio Fronterre,Peter J. Diggle,Andrew J. Page,Alexander J. Trotter,Sophie J Prosolek,Tcgukc,Deborah Ashby,Christl A. Donnelly,Christl A. Donnelly,Wendy S. Barclay,Graham S Cooke,Graham S Cooke,Graham S Cooke,Helen Ward,Helen Ward,Helen Ward,Ara Darzi,Ara Darzi,Ara Darzi,Steven Riley +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analysed prevalence trends and their drivers using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab-positivity data from round 12 (between 20 May and 7 June 2021) and round 13 (between 24 June and 12 July 2021) of the REAL-time Assessment of Community Transmission-1 (REACT-1) study, with swabs sent to nonoverlapping random samples of the population ages 5 years and over in England.

REACT-1 round 12 report: resurgence of SARS-CoV-2 infections in England associated with increased frequency of the Delta variant
Steven Riley,Haowei Wang,Oliver Eales,D Haw,Caroline E. Walters,Kylie E. C. Ainslie,Christina Atchison,Claudio Fronterre,Peter J. Diggle,Andrew J. Page,Sophie J Prosolek,Alexander J. Trotter,T. Barclay,Helen Ward,Helen Ward,Helen Ward,Ara Darzi,Ara Darzi,Ara Darzi,Paul Elliott +27 more
TL;DR: The REAL-time Assessment of Community Transmision-1 (REACT-1) study measured the prevalence of swab-positivity among random samples of the population of England.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of different viewing conditions on performance in simulated minimal access surgery.
TL;DR: While open surgery naturally scored highest, the key finding was the clearly superior performance in the 3d condition compared to 2d, suggesting modern 3d viewing systems can improve performance in a realistic task.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of Rapid Sampling Microdialysis for Intraoperative Monitoring of Bowel Ischemia
Samer Deeba,Emma P. Córcoles,George B. Hanna,P. Pareskevas,Omer Aziz,Martyn G. Boutelle,Ara Darzi +6 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that tissue responds to ischemic insult by mobilizing glucose stores which later decrease again, whereas lactate concentrations constantly increased, suggesting that rapid sampling microdialysis was feasible in the clinical environment.
