What proportion of patients report long-term pain after total hip or knee replacement for osteoarthritis? A systematic review of prospective studies in unselected patients
TL;DR: To review published studies in representative populations with total hip or knee replacement for the treatment of osteoarthritis reporting proportions of people by pain intensity, there is an urgent need to improve general awareness of this possibility and to address determinants of good and bad outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
How long does a knee replacement last? A systematic review and meta-analysis of case series and national registry reports with more than 15 years of follow-up.
Jonathan Evans,Jonathan P Evans,Robert W Walker,Ashley W Blom,Ashley W Blom,Michael R Whitehouse,Michael R Whitehouse,Adrian Sayers +7 more
TL;DR: Patients and surgeons can expect a hip replacement to last 25 years in around 58% of patients, assuming that estimates from national registries are less likely to be biased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Failure rates of stemmed metal-on-metal hip replacements: analysis of data from the National Joint Registry of England and Wales
TL;DR: Metal-on-metal stemmed articulations give poor implant survival compared with other options and should not be implanted, and all patients with these bearings should be carefully monitored, particularly young women implanted with large diameter heads.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection after total knee arthroplasty
Ashley W Blom,J. H. M. Brown,Adrian Taylor,Giles Pattison,Sarah L. Whitehouse,Gordon C. Bannister +5 more
TL;DR: Although infection rates have declined with the introduction of prophylactic measures, and more patients are undergoing TKA, the outcome of infected TKA has improved very little.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection after total hip arthroplasty. The Avon experience.
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-surgeon audit of infection after total hip replacement in the UK is presented, showing that a large cohort of surgeons of varying seniority can achieve infection rates of 1% and revision rates for infection of less than 0.5%.
