Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental influences on aquatic plants in freshwater ecosystems

TL;DR: A review of natural and anthropogenic influences on the distribution and abundance of aquatic plants is presented in this paper, where the authors examine both the direct and indirect influences on aquatic plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparisons between wildfire and forest harvesting and their implications in forest management

TL;DR: Emulation silviculture is the use of silvicultural techniques that try to imitate natural disturbances such as wildfire, which is becoming increasingly popular in Canada.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pollutant inputs from the atmosphere and accumulations in soils and vegetation near a nickel-copper smelter at Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Bill Freedman, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1980 -
TL;DR: The inputs of the airborne pollutants nickel, copper, iron, and sulfur were determined in bulk dustfall-rainfall collection and in snow samples taken along transects originating at a large nickel mine as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of smelter pollutants on forest leaf litter decomposition near a nickel–copper smelter at Sudbury, Ontario

Bill Freedman, +1 more
- 01 Aug 1980 -
TL;DR: The addition of copper and (or) nickel to a homogenate of leaf litter was shown to depress the rate of dry weight loss and CO2 flux, and negative effects commenced at metal concentrations comparable to those observed at uncontaminated sites.
