Local climate change and urban heat island mitigation techniques – the state of the art
Hashem Akbari,Constantinos Cartalis,Denia Kolokotsa,Alberto Muscio,Anna Laura Pisello,Federico Rossi,Matheos Santamouris,Afroditi Synnefa,Nyuk Hien Wong,Michele Zinzi +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the state of the art in terms of local climate change and urban heat island mitigation techniques are presented in detail, in particular developments in the field on highly reflective materials, cool and green roofs, cool pavements, urban green and of other mitigation technologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reinforcement learning for energy conservation and comfort in buildings
TL;DR: In this paper, a reinforcement learning controller is developed and simulated using the Matlab/Simulink environment, where the reinforcement learning signal used is a function of the thermal comfort of the building occupants, the indoor air quality and the energy consumption.
Journal ArticleDOI
Green and cool roofs' urban heat island mitigation potential in tropical climate
Junjing Yang,Devi llamathy Mohan Kumar,Andri Pyrgou,Adrian Chong,Mat Santamouris,Mat Santamouris,Denia Kolokotsa,Siew Eang Lee +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a numerical comparative analysis between green roofs and cool roofs in a tropical climate like Singapore's was done by means of dynamic simulations in EnergyPlus software, taking into account climatological, thermal, optical and hydrological variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progress in urban greenery mitigation science – assessment methodologies advanced technologies and impact on cities
Mat Santamouris,George Ban-Weiss,Paul Osmond,Riccardo Paolini,Afroditi Synnefa,Constantinos Cartalis,Alberto Muscio,Michele Zinzi,Tobi Eniolu Morakinyo,Edward Ng,Zheng Tan,Hideki Takebayashi,David J. Sailor,Peter J. Crank,Haider Taha,Anna Laura Pisello,Federico Rossi,Jiong Zhang,Denia Kolokotsa +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the latest progress on the field of greenery urban mitigation techniques including aspects related to the theoretical and experimental assessment of the greenery cooling potential, the impact on urban vegetation on energy, health and comfort and the acquired knowledge on the best integration of the various types of greenenery in the urban frame.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implementation of an integrated indoor environment and energy management system
TL;DR: The architecture, the algorithms and the performance results of an integrated indoor environment energy management system (IEEMS) for buildings, installed in two buildings in Athens and in Crete, are presented.
