Basin‐Wide Effects of Game Harvest on Vertebrate Population Densities in Amazonian Forests: Implications for Animal‐Mediated Seed Dispersal
Carlos A. Peres,Erwin Palacios +1 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive meta-analysis of changes in population density or other abundance estimates for 30 mid-sized to large mammal, bird and reptile species in 101 hunted and nonhunted, but otherwise undisturbed, Neotropical forest sites finds frugivorous species showed more marked declines in abundance in heavily hunted sites than seed predators and browsers, regardless of the effects of body size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of ecosystem services provision in the Colombian Amazon using participatory research and mapping techniques
Sara O.I. Ramirez-Gomez,Sara O.I. Ramirez-Gomez,Sara O.I. Ramirez-Gomez,Carlos A. Torres-Vitolas,Kate Schreckenberg,Miroslav Honzák,Gisella S. Cruz-Garcia,Gisella S. Cruz-Garcia,Simon Willcock,Erwin Palacios,Elena Pérez-Miñana,Pita A. Verweij,Guy M. Poppy +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted eight participatory mapping activities and convened 22 focus group discussions to assess the changes in the provision of ecosystem services in the lower Caqueta River basin in Colombia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diet of a Group of Callicebus torquatus lugens (Humboldt, 1812) During the Annual Resource Bottleneck in Amazonian Colombia
TL;DR: A group of Callicebus torquatus lugens using a territory of 22.25 ha in eastern Colombia showed a varied diet throughout the annual period of lowest fruit availability and is suggested as a frugivore–granivore; they share with the Pitheciin an immature seed-eating adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary Observations on the Mottledface Tamarin (Saguinus inustus) on the Lower Río Caquetá, Colombian Amazonia
TL;DR: Preliminary data is presented on some aspects of the ecology of this species on the lower Río Caquetá, Colombian Amazonia and the importance of conducting further research on its ecology in the region is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primate population densities in three nutrient-poor Amazonian terra firme forests of south-eastern Colombia
Erwin Palacios,Carlos A. Peres +1 more
TL;DR: It is urged that a baseline sampling protocol to quantify the abundance and distribution of the harvest-sensitive vertebrate fauna be established within protected areas and the large indigenous reserves so that conservation efforts can be defined and implemented.
