Predictors of length of stay and patient satisfaction after hip and knee replacement surgery: fast-track experience in 712 patients.
TL;DR: Age, sex, marital status, co-morbidity, preoperative use of walking aids, pre- and postoperative hemoglobin levels, the need for blood transfusion, ASA score, and time between surgery and mobilization, were all found to influence postoperative outcome in general and LOS in particular.
Journal ArticleDOI
What determines length of stay after total hip and knee arthroplasty? A nationwide study in Denmark.
Henrik Husted,Hans Christian Hansen,Gitte Holm,Charlotte Bach-Dal,Kirsten Rud,Kristoffer Lande Andersen,Henrik Kehlet +6 more
TL;DR: Nationwide implementation of fast-track THA and TKA would result in a significant decrease in the needed number of hospital beds with similar or better outcome for the patients, and implementation of updated logistical and clinical features is expected to increase rehabilitation and reduce LOS withsimilar or improved patient satisfaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tranexamic acid reduces blood loss and blood transfusions in primary total hip arthroplasty: a prospective randomized double-blind study in 40 patients.
TL;DR: Tranexamic acid is effective in reducing the postoperative blood loss, the total blood loss and the need for blood transfusion in primary total hip arthroplasty.
Journal ArticleDOI
Very low survival rates after non-traumatic lower limb amputation in a consecutive series: what to do?†
Morten Tange Kristensen,Gitte Holm,Klaus Kirketerp-Møller,Michael Krasheninnikoff,Peter Gebuhr +4 more
TL;DR: A multidisciplinary, optimized, multimodal pre- and postoperative programme should be instituted, trying to improve the outcome of patients who had a non-traumatic lower limb amputation in a university hospital.
