Journal ArticleDOI

Interspecific competitiveness affects the total biomass yield in an alfalfa and corn intercropping system

TL;DR: In this article, a 3-year (2007-2009) field experiment was conducted, including four intercropping patterns by alternating alfalfa and corn row ratios of 2:2, 3:2 and 4:2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Betaine Supplementation to Methionine Deficient Diet on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Broilers

TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted to determine the extent to which dietary Methionine (Met) could be replaced by Betaine (BET) in broiler chickens under the feeding conditions specific to Chinese poultry industry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunomodulatory, antioxidant and intestinal morphology-regulating activities of alfalfa polysaccharides in mice

TL;DR: The results showed that the oral administration of APS improved the immune functions of mice, significantly enhanced the white blood cells and lymphocyte counts, and led to improvements in spleen and thymus indices, showing potential for the development as an effective natural immunomodulatory and antioxidant agent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polysaccharide from alfalfa activates RAW 264.7 macrophages through MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that APS could improve the immune functions of RAW 264.7 macrophages cells by promoting the cell viability and increasing secretion and gene expressions of NO/iNOS, IL-6 and TNF-α through the MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI

Root Distribution and N Acquisition in an Alfalfa and Corn Intercropping System

TL;DR: The complementary and compatibility of the root spatial distribution of component crops in alfalfa/corn community were the essential cause for better biomass yield.
