Defining the biomethane potential (BMP) of solid organic wastes and energy crops: a proposed protocol for batch assays.
Irini Angelidaki,M. Madalena Alves,David Bolzonella,Liliana Borzacconi,José Luis Campos,Alan J. Guwy,Sergey Kalyuzhnyi,Pavel Jenicek,J.B. van Lier +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present some guidelines for biomethane potential assays prepared by the Task Group for the Anaerobic Biodegradation, Activity and Inhibition Assays of the International Water Association.
wastes and energy crops: a proposed protocol for batch assays
Irini Angelidaki,M. Madalena Alves,David Bolzonella,Liliana Borzacconi,José Luis Campos,Alan J. Guwy,Sergey Kalyuzhnyi,Pavel Jenicek,J.B. van Lier +8 more
TL;DR: This paper presents some guidelines for biomethane potential assays prepared by the Task Group for the Anaerobic Biodegradation, Activity and Inhibition Assays of the Anaerobic Digestion Specialist Group of the International Water Association, the first step for the definition of a standard protocol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Feasibility of biohydrogen production from cheese whey using a UASB reactor: Links between microbial community and reactor performance
Elena Castelló,C. García y Santos,T. Iglesias,G. Paolino,Jorge Wenzel,Liliana Borzacconi,Claudia Etchebehere +6 more
TL;DR: The persistence of methanogenesis and the presence of other fermenters, not clearly recognised as hydrogen producers, indicates that competition for the substrate may explain the low hydrogen production.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hydrogen production in an upflow anaerobic packed bed reactor used to treat cheese whey
V. Perna,Elena Castelló,Jorge Wenzel,C. Zampol,D.M. Fontes Lima,Liliana Borzacconi,Maria Bernadete Amâncio Varesche,Marcelo Zaiat,Claudia Etchebehere +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, an upflow anaerobic packed bed reactor configuration to produce hydrogen using cheese whey as the substrate was tested, and the microbiological composition was linked to the reactor operation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stability problems in the hydrogen production by dark fermentation: Possible causes and solutions
Elena Castelló,Antonio Djalma Nunes Ferraz-Junior,Cristiane L. Andreani,Mélida del Pilar Anzola-Rojas,Liliana Borzacconi,Germán Buitrón,Julián Carrillo-Reyes,Simone Damasceno Gomes,Sandra Imaculada Maintinguer,Iván Moreno-Andrade,Rodolfo Palomo-Briones,Elías Razo-Flores,María Schiappacasse-Dasati,Estela Tapia-Venegas,Idania Valdez-Vazquez,Alejandra Vesga-Baron,Marcelo Zaiat,Claudia Etchebehere +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed and discussed instability causes and possible solutions in the H2 production by dark fermentation and concluded that instability is mostly linked to the biotic aspects of the process (i.e., changes in the microbial community composition, presence of organisms that consume hydrogen and compete for the substrate, and accumulation of fermentation products).
