A controlled trial comparing sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, ampicillin, and no therapy in the treatment of salmonella gastroenteritis in children

TL;DR: Although highly active (and synergistic) in vitro, the new combination drug SMZ-TMP is no more effective than ampicillin in vivo in vivo; neither of the antibiotic treatments offered any advantage over no antibiotic therapy of salmonella gastroenteritis in children.
