Journal ArticleDOI
Potential Involvement of Fas and Its Ligand in the Pathogenesis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Carla Giordano,Giorgio Stassi,Ruggero De Maria,Matilde Todaro,Pierina Richiusa,Giuliana Papoff,Giovina Ruberti,Marcello Bagnasco,Roberto Testi,Aldo Galluzzo +9 more
TL;DR: The ligand for Fas (FasL) was shown to be constitutively expressed both in normal and HT thyrocytes and was able to kill Fas-sensitive targets, suggesting that IL-1β-induced Fas expression serves as a limiting factor for Thyrocyte destruction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fine-needle aspiration molecular analysis for the diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma through BRAF V600E mutation and RET/PTC rearrangement.
Giuseppe Pizzolanti,Leonardo Russo,Pierina Richiusa,Vincenzo Bronte,Rosa Bianca Nuara,Vito Rodolico,Marco Calogero Amato,Lucia Smeraldi,Pasqua S. Sisto,Miriam Nucera,Alessandra Bommarito,Roberto Citarrella,Renato Lo Coco,Daniela Cabibi,Alessio Lo Coco,Francesco Frasca,Gaspare Gulotta,Mario Adelfio Latteri,Giuseppe Modica,Aldo Galluzzo,Carla Giordano +20 more
TL;DR: BRAF(V600E) mutation detected on FNAB specimens, more than RET/PTC rearrangements, is highly specific for PTC and its routine research might well be an adjunctive and integrative diagnostic tool for the preoperative diagnostic iter.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vitro identification and characterization of CD133pos cancer stem-like cells in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cell lines
Giovanni Zito,Pierina Richiusa,Alessandra Bommarito,Elvira Carissimi,Leonardo Russo,Antonina Coppola,Monica Zerilli,Vito Rodolico,Angela Criscimanna,Marco Calogero Amato,Giuseppe Pizzolanti,Aldo Galluzzo,Carla Giordano +12 more
TL;DR: ARO/CD133pos cells exhibit stem cell-like features - such as high proliferation, self-renewal ability, expression of OCT-4 - and are characterized by higher resistance to chemotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
BRAFV600E mutation and p27kip1 expression in papillary carcinomas of the thyroid ≤1 cm and their paired lymph node metastases
Vito Rodolico,Daniela Cabibi,Giuseppe Pizzolanti,Pierina Richiusa,Nicola Gebbia,Anna Martorana,Antonio Russo,Marco Calogero Amato,Aldo Galluzzo,Carla Giordano +9 more
TL;DR: BRAFV600E mutation and p27kip1 expression have been introduced as novel indicators that may predict prognosis in different tumors, as well as in papillary thyroid carcinomas.
