Journal ArticleDOI
Ultraviolet radiation and skin cancer.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a comprehensive overview of skin cancer with an emphasis on carefully evaluated statistics, the epidemiology of UVR-induced skin cancers, incidence rates, risk factors, and preventative behaviors & strategies, including personal behavioral modifications and public educational initiatives.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isoflavone Genistein: Photoprotection and Clinical Implications in Dermatology
Huachen Wei,Rao N. Saladi,Yuhun Lu,Yan Wang,Sapna R. Palep,Julian Moore,Robert G. Phelps,Eileen Q. Shyong,Mark Lebwohl +8 more
TL;DR: The biological activities of genistein are reviewed, as well as published and unpublished research from the laboratory, and the potential application ofgenistein to clinical dermatology are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The causes of skin cancer: a comprehensive review.
Rao N. Saladi,Andrea N. Persaud +1 more
TL;DR: The causative agents which play a role in the development of skin cancer are reviewed, with an emphasis on understanding its epidemiology, incidence, etiology and related risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protective effects of lycopene against ultraviolet B-induced photodamage.
TL;DR: Topical lycopene may act as a preventative agent via inhibition of epidermal ornithine decarboxylase activity, reducing inflammatory responses, maintaining normal cell proliferation, and possibly preventing DNA damage as indicated by blocking the necessitating step of apoptosis following UVB injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of the isoflavone 4′,5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone (genistein) on psoralen plus ultraviolet A radiation (PUVA)-induced photodamage
Eileen Q. Shyong,Yuhun Lu,Alison Lazinsky,Rao N. Saladi,Robert G. Phelps,Lisa M. Austin,Mark Lebwohl,Huachen Wei +7 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that genistein protects the skin from PUVA-induced photodamage.
