Journal ArticleDOI

Total Hip Arthroplasty – over 100 years of operative history

TL;DR: A review of the progression of the operation from its origins, together with highlighting the materials and techniques that have contributed to its development, describes current areas of research being undertaken to further advance techniques and improve outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling ischaemia in vitro: Effects of temperature and glucose concentration on dopamine release evoked by oxygen and glucose depletion in a mouse brain slice

TL;DR: It is suggested, in agreement with previous work, that using 2 mM glucose during OGD is appropriate, and using these conditions the authors were able to reliably produce OGD-evoked dopamine release.
Journal ArticleDOI

Allopregnanolone protects against dopamine-induced striatal damage after in vitro ischaemia via interaction at GABA A receptors.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that allopregnanolone is neuroprotective during the acute phase of ischaemia, and that such actions are dependent, at least in part, upon interaction at the GABAA receptor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development, Evaluation, and Delivery of an Innovative National Undergraduate Surgical Workshop: Recognition and Management of the Acutely Unwell Surgical Patient

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a workshop taught by surgical trainees improved medical students’ confidence, self-perceived competence, and knowledge in the assessment and management of acutely unwell surgical patients.
