Journal ArticleDOI

Community-acquired MRSA and pig-farming.

TL;DR: A MRSA cluster among family members of a pig-farmer, his co-workers and his pigs shows clonal spread and transmission between humans and pigs in the Netherlands and puts the until now successful Search and Destroy policy of the Netherlands at risk.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human-to-Dog Transmission of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

TL;DR: In this article, MRSA was cultured from the nose of a healthy dog whose owner was colonized with MRSA while she worked in a Dutch nursing home and typing of the staphylococcal chromosome cassette mec (SCCmec) region showed that both MRSA strains were identical.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of Pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica by a Rapid and Sensitive Duplex PCR Assay

TL;DR: A duplex PCR assay targeting the ail and 16S rRNA genes of Yersinia enterocolitica was developed and offers a very specific, reliable, and inexpensive alternative to the conventional phenotypic assays used in clinical laboratories to identify pathogenic Y. enterocol itica.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibiotic resistance, integrons and Salmonella genomic island 1 among non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars in The Netherlands.

TL;DR: Investigation of antimicrobial resistance patterns, integron characteristics and gene cassettes as well as the presence of Salmonella genomic island 1 (SGI1) in non-typhoidal Salmonellosis isolates from human and animal origin found the same resistance phenotype, integrons profile and SGI1 structure could be observed.
