Production, Consumption, Prosumption The nature of capitalism in the age of the digital ‘prosumer’

TL;DR: Prosumption involves both production and consumption rather than focusing on either one (production) or the other (consumption), and it is maintained that earlier forms of capitalism (producer and consumer capitalism) were themselves characterized by prosumption as mentioned in this paper.

Sieve, Incubator, Temple, Hub: Empirical and Theoretical Advances in the Sociology of Higher Education

TL;DR: The authors argue that higher education lacks an intellectually coherent sociology; varied research on colleges and universities is dispersed widely throughout the discipline and argue that sociologists have conceived of higher education systems as sieves for sorting and stratifying populations, incubators for the development of competent social actors, temples for the legitimation of official knowledge, and hubs connecting multiple institutional domains.

Using spatial metrics to predict scenic perception in a changing landscape: Dennis, Massachusetts

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated residents' perceptions of scenic quality in the Cape Cod community of Dennis, Massachusetts during a period of significant landscape change and found that approximately half of the variation in scenic perceptions can be explained by spatial landscape metrics and this model retains its predictive efficacy after 20 years.

LIQUID CONSUMPTION: Anti-consumerism and the fetishized de-fetishization of commodities
