Pathogenesis and natural history of osteonecrosis.

TLDR
The understanding of the pathogenesis of osteonecrosis is now much better defined and skeletal scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging have enhanced diagnosis greatly, helping the physician determine which patients are at risk for oste onecrosis, facilitating early diagnosis and better treatment options.

Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in Cancer After Treatment With Bisphosphonates: Incidence and Risk Factors

TL;DR: The type of bisphosphonate may play a role and previous dental procedures may be a precipitating factor for this complication and length of exposure seems to be the most important risk factor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Practical Guidelines for the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in Patients With Cancer

TL;DR: An increased awareness of the potential risk of ONJ in patients receiving bisphosphonate therapy is needed and close coordination between the treating physician and oral surgeon and/or a dental specialist is strongly recommended in making treatment decisions.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Review of the Literature on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in Patients with Osteoporosis Treated with Oral Bisphosphonates: Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Clinical Characteristics

TL;DR: Considering that millions of patients have been prescribed bisphosphonates for the treatment of osteoporosis, the relative prevalence of ONJ in these patients was low and it is not possible to draw further conclusions about the potential association between oral bisph phosphonate use and OnJ in the identified studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glucocorticoids in osteonecrosis of the femoral head: A new understanding of the mechanisms of action

TL;DR: While more effort is needed to better comprehend the role of GC in ON, newer data on GC action upon the endothelial cell and the regional endothelial bed dysfunction theory sheds new light on particular GC mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head: etiology, imaging and treatment.

TL;DR: Many etiology-associated factors have been identified reducing thus the number of idiopathic cases and MR imaging has been proved to be a highly accurate method both for early diagnosis and for staging of the disease.

Report of two cases

TL;DR: Two patients underwent thoracotomy for resection of pulmonary or esophageal carcinoma and regained motor and sensory functions 14 and 18 hours later, respectively, without sequelae.
Journal ArticleDOI

Report of Three Cases

TL;DR: 3 cases of enteritis gravis are presented, marked by segmental intestinal mucosal necrosis with hemorrhage and edema of the bowel wall, which is a sharply defined entity as shown by Jeckeln.

Inhibition of osteoblastogenesis and promotion of apoptosis of osteoblasts and osteocytes by glucocorticoids. Potential mechanisms of their deleterious effects on bone.

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that glucocorticoid-induced bone disease arises from changes in the numbers of bone cells, whereas decreased production and apoptosis of osteoblasts would account for the decline in bone formation and trabecular width.

Report of a case and review of the literature

TL;DR: In this paper, a case of paraganglioma of the filum terminale was presented where normal sympathetic ganglion cells were seen in conjunction with tumour cells in a well-encapsulated tumour.
