TLDR
In this paper, the salinity tolerance of various macrozoobenthos taxa is reviewed based on published data and the results of their studies and significant differences in the tolerance of hydrobionts to water salinity in rivers of different arid regions are shown.Abstract:
The review of the salinity tolerance of various macrozoobenthos taxa is based on the published data and the results of our studies. Significant differences in the tolerance of hydrobionts to water salinity in rivers of different arid regions are shown. Leeches, bivalved mollusks, larvae of stoneflies, caddis flies, and mayflies are the most stenohaline species. The taxonomical structure of macrozoobenthos in saline rivers of Lake Elton basin in the arid zone of Russian South is presented.read more

Exploring the effects of salinization on trophic diversity in freshwater ecosystems: a quantitative review
TL;DR: It is predicted that increasing salinization can negatively impact trophic diversity and in turn cause overall changes in the structure and function of freshwater ecosystems.

Combined effects of NaCl and fluoxetine on the freshwater planarian, Schmidtea mediterranea (Platyhelminthes: Dugesiidae).
TL;DR: Results show that S. mediterranea can be highly sensitive to low NaCl concentrations and that this stressor can alter the effects of fluoxetine.

TL;DR: In arid and semi-arid regions, extreme temperature events and the frequency and duration of drought will increase toward 2050, leading to increased salinisation of inland waters, aggravated by catch...

Response of the mollusc communities to environmental factors along an anthropogenic salinity gradient.
TL;DR: The regression analysis revealed that total mollusc density was positively related to alkalinity and negatively related to nitrate nitrogen, which is consistent with previous studies which indicated that a high salinity level is a significant threat to freshwater malacofauna.
Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies
TL;DR: Analysis of the species diversity of cyanobacteria from the genus Anabaena was based on the microscopic analysis and on the analysis of 16S rRNA and ITS region, finding similarity of 98.5% seems to be sufficient to determine the species.

A review of the salt sensitivity of the Australian freshwater biota
Barry T. Hart,Paul C. E. Bailey,Richard T. Edwards,Kent Hortle,Kim R. James,Andrew McMahon,Charles Meredith,Kerrie M. Swadling +7 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that direct adverse biological effects are likely to occur in Australian river, stream and wetland ecosystems if salinity is increased to around 1 000 mg L−1, and a general lack of data on the sensitivity of freshwater plants and animals to salinity increases.

Effects of increasing salinity on freshwater ecosystems in Australia
TL;DR: The knowledge base on how salinity affects the physical and biotic components of aquatic ecosystems is updated and the needs for information on how structure and function of aquaticcosystems change with increasing salinity are explored.
