Journal ArticleDOI
FRAX™ and the assessment of fracture probability in men and women from the UK
TL;DR: The models provide a framework which enhances the assessment of fracture risk in both men and women by the integration of clinical risk factors alone and/or in combination with BMD.
Journal ArticleDOI
15-year longitudinal study of blood pressure and dementia
Ingmar Skoog,Lars Nilsson,G. Persson,Bodil Lernfelt,Sten Landahl,Bo Palmertz,L-A Andreasson,Anders Odén,Alvar Svanborg +8 more
TL;DR: Previously increased blood pressure may increase the risk for dementia by inducing small-vessel disease and white-matter lesions, but to what extent the decline in blood pressure before dementia onset is a consequence or a cause of the brain disease remains to be elucidated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body mass index as a predictor of fracture risk: A meta-analysis
C De Laet,John A. Kanis,Anders Odén,H Johanson,Olof Johnell,Pierre D. Delmas,John A. Eisman,Heikki Kröger,Saeko Fujiwara,P. Garnero,Eugene V. McCloskey,Dan Mellström,Lee J. Melton,P. J. Meunier,Hap Pols,J. Reeve,Alan J. Silman,Alan Tenenhouse +17 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that low BMI confers a risk of substantial importance for all fractures that is largely independent of age and sex, but dependent on BMD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictive Value of BMD for Hip and Other Fractures
Olof Johnell,John A. Kanis,Anders Odén,Helena Johansson,Chris De Laet,Pierre D. Delmas,John A. Eisman,Seiko Fujiwara,Heikki Kröger,Dan Mellström,Pierre J. Meunier,L. Joseph Melton,T W O'Neill,Huibert A. P. Pols,Jonathan Reeve,Alan J. Silman,Alan Tenenhouse +16 more
TL;DR: The relationship between BMD and fracture risk was estimated in a meta‐analysis of data from 12 cohort studies of ∼39,000 men and women and low hip BMD was an important predictor of fracture risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors: the incidence, prevalence, clinical course, and prognostication in the preimatinib mesylate era--a population-based study in western Sweden.
Bengt Nilsson,Per Bümming,Jeanne M. Meis-Kindblom,Anders Odén,Aydin Dortok,Bengt Gustavsson,M.P.H. Katarzyna Sablinska M.D.,Lars-Gunnar Kindblom +7 more
TL;DR: Recent breakthroughs regarding gastrointestinal stromal tumors and their pathogenesis have redefined diagnostic criteria and have led to the development of molecularly targeted drug therapy.
