Modelling and measuring flow and wind turbine wakes in large wind farms offshore
Rebecca Jane Barthelmie,Kurt Schaldemose Hansen,Sten Tronæs Frandsen,Ole Rathmann,J.G. Schepers,W. Schlez,John D. Phillips,K. Rados,Arthouros Zervos,E.S. Politis,P. Chaviaropoulos +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare different types of models from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to wind farm models in terms of how accurately they represent wake losses when compared with measurements from offshore wind farms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pumped storage systems introduction in isolated power production systems
Dimitris Al. Katsaprakakis,Dimitris G. Christakis,Arthouros Zervos,Dimitris E. Papantonis,Spiros Voutsinas +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the introduction of pumped storage systems (PSS) in isolated power production systems with high thermoelectric production and wind energy rejection and showed that the PSS storage-production procedure is accomplished without any predefined schedule.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 2°C scenario - A sustainable world energy perspective
TL;DR: In this paper, a target-oriented scenario of future energy demand and supply is developed in a backcasting process, where the main target is to reduce global CO 2 emissions to around 10Gt/a in 2050, thus limiting global average temperature increase to 2°C and preventing dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wind power development in Europe
TL;DR: The current state and prospects of wind power in Europe are described, with special emphasis on the three countries leading wind power development in Europe, i.e., Germany, Denmark, and Spain.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of pumped storage systems towards the large scale wind integration in the Greek power supply system
TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of pumped storage systems is discussed in three different scenarios of wind-photovoltaics integration, and it is shown that for the gradual increase of variable output renewable energy (RES) is required, but the feasibility is not proved in the intermediate scenarios of RES integration.
