The advantages and limitations of trait analysis with GWAS: a review
Arthur Korte,Ashley Farlow +1 more
TL;DR: The relevance of biological factors including effect size, sample size, genetic heterogeneity, genomic confounding, linkage disequilibrium and spurious association, and statistical tools to account for these are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
1,135 Genomes Reveal the Global Pattern of Polymorphism in Arabidopsis thaliana
Carlos Alonso-Blanco,Jorge Andrade,Claude Becker,Felix Bemm,Joy Bergelson,Karsten M. Borgwardt,Jun Cao,Eunyoung Chae,Todd M. Dezwaan,Wei Ding,Joseph R. Ecker,Moises Exposito-Alonso,Ashley Farlow,Joffrey Fitz,Xiangchao Gan,Dominik G. Grimm,Angela M. Hancock,Stefan R. Henz,Svante Holm,Matthew W. Horton,Mike Jarsulic,Randall A. Volchenboum,Congmao Wang,George Wang,Xi Wang,Wolfram Weckwerth,Detlef Weigel,Xuefeng Zhou +55 more
TL;DR: Insights into the history of the species and the fine-scale distribution of genetic diversity provide the basis for full exploitation of A. thaliana natural variation through integration of genomes and epigenomes with molecular and non-molecular phenotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Massive genomic variation and strong selection in Arabidopsis thaliana lines from Sweden
Quan Long,Fernando A. Rabanal,Dazhe Meng,Christian D. Huber,Ashley Farlow,Alexander Platzer,Qingrun Zhang,Bjarni J. Vilhjálmsson,Arthur Korte,Viktoria Nizhynska,Viktor Voronin,Pamela Korte,Laura Sedman,Terezie Mandáková,Martin A. Lysak,Ümit Seren,Ines Hellmann,Magnus Nordborg,Magnus Nordborg +18 more
TL;DR: The massive variation in genome size identified by flow cytometry seems largely to be due to 45S rDNA copy number variation, with lines from northern Sweden having particularly large numbers of copies.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Spontaneous Mutation Rate in the Fission Yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe
Ashley Farlow,Hongan Long,Stéphanie Arnoux,Way Sung,Thomas G. Doak,Magnus Nordborg,Michael Lynch +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that GC-biased gene conversion does not play a major role in shaping the nucleotide composition of the S. pombe genome and suggest that the mechanisms of DNA maintenance may have diverged significantly between fission and budding yeasts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Essential Roles in Development and Pigmentation for the Drosophila Copper Transporter DmATP7
Melanie Beth Norgate,Esther Lee,Adam Southon,Ashley Farlow,Philip J. Batterham,James Camakaris,Richard Burke +6 more
TL;DR: It is found that DmATP7, the sole Drosophila orthologue of the Menkes and Wilson genes, is vital for uptake of copper in vivo and displays a dynamic and unexpected expression pattern in the developing embryo, implying novel functions for this copper pump.
