Journal ArticleDOI

Optical sensing by optimized silicon slot waveguides

TL;DR: A theoretical investigation of silicon-on-insulator nanometer slot waveguides for highly sensitive and compact chemical and biochemical integrated optical sensing is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photonic technologies for angular velocity sensing

TL;DR: In this article, the role of integrated optics and photonic integrated circuit technology in the enhancement of gyroscope performance and compactness is broadly discussed, and the architecture of new slow-light integrated angular rate sensors is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Label-free optical resonant sensors for biochemical applications

TL;DR: Resonant wavelength shift and the modal splitting occurring when the analyte interacts with microresonant structures are the two major physical aspects analyzed in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Guided-Wave Optical Biosensors.

TL;DR: Guided-wave optical biosensors are reviewed in this paper, where the possibility to use Mach-Zehnder and Young interferometers, microdisk and microring resonators, surface plasmon resonance, hollow and antiresonant waveguides, and Bragg gratings is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

High performance InP ring resonator for new generation monolithically integrated optical gyroscopes

TL;DR: An InP ring resonator with an experimentally demonstrated quality factor (Q) of the order of 10(6) is reported for the first time, which is a record for the InP technology and improves the state-of-the-art of about one order of magnitude.
