Laser Compression of Matter to Super-High Densities: Thermonuclear (CTR) Applications

TL;DR: In this article, an implosion system energized by a high energy laser was proposed to compress hydrogen to more than 10,000 times liquid density by an imploding system, which makes possible efficient thermonuclear burn of small pellets of heavy hydrogen isotopes, and makes feasible fusion power reactors using practical lasers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Burning plasma achieved in inertial fusion

Alex Zylstra, +153 more
- 01 Jan 2022 -
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors achieved a burning-plasma state in the laboratory using a strategy to increase the spatial scale of the capsule through two different implosion concepts and showed that fusion self-heating in excess of the mechanical work injected into the implosions, satisfying several burningplasma metrics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiative Jet Experiments of Astrophysical Interest Using Intense Lasers

TL;DR: A high Mach number, radiatively cooled jet of astrophysical interest has been produced using intense laser irradiation of a gold cone as discussed by the authors, and the evolution of the jet was imaged in emission and in radiography, and the temperature was measured with Thomson scattering.
