Burning plasma achieved in inertial fusion

Alex Zylstra, +153 more
- 01 Jan 2022 -
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors achieved a burning-plasma state in the laboratory using a strategy to increase the spatial scale of the capsule through two different implosion concepts and showed that fusion self-heating in excess of the mechanical work injected into the implosions, satisfying several burningplasma metrics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiative Jet Experiments of Astrophysical Interest Using Intense Lasers

TL;DR: A high Mach number, radiatively cooled jet of astrophysical interest has been produced using intense laser irradiation of a gold cone as discussed by the authors, and the evolution of the jet was imaged in emission and in radiography, and the temperature was measured with Thomson scattering.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thomson Scattering from High- Z Laser-Produced Plasmas

TL;DR: In this paper, the first simultaneous observations of ion acoustic and electron plasma waves in laser-produced dense plasmas with Thomson scattering were presented, which is a sensitive method for temporally and spatially resolved measurements of the averaged ionization stage of the plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Computed optical emissions from a sonoluminescing bubble

TL;DR: In this paper, a sonoluminescing bubble is modeled as a thermally conducting, partially ionized plasma, and the model is more complete than previous models, due to the inclusion of both plasma and normal molecular thermal conduction, vapor pressure, surface tension, the mixing of gas and water vapor in the bubble, and opacities.
