TL;DR: A unifying model framework describing the atmospheric evolution of OA that is constrained by high–time-resolution measurements of its composition, volatility, and oxidation state is presented, which can serve as a basis for improving parameterizations in regional and global models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ubiquity and dominance of oxygenated species in organic aerosols in anthropogenically-influenced Northern Hemisphere midlatitudes

TL;DR: In this article, organic aerosol data acquired by the AMS in 37 field campaigns were deconvolved into hydrocarbon-like OA (HOA) and several types of oxygenated OA components.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elemental ratio measurements of organic compounds using aerosol mass spectrometry: characterization, improved calibration, and implications
Manjula R. Canagaratna,Jose L. Jimenez,Jesse H. Kroll,Qi Chen,Sean H. Kessler,Paola Massoli,L. Hildebrandt Ruiz,Edward C. Fortner,Leah R. Williams,Kevin R. Wilson,Jason D. Surratt,Neil M. Donahue,J. T. Jayne,D. R. Worsnop +13 more
TL;DR: Aiken et al. as mentioned in this paper used the Aerodyne high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS) to measure OA elemental composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ACSM) for Routine Monitoring of the Composition and Mass Concentrations of Ambient Aerosol
Nga L. Ng,Scott C. Herndon,A. Trimborn,Manjula R. Canagaratna,Philip Croteau,Timothy B. Onasch,Donna Sueper,D. R. Worsnop,Qi Zhang,Yele Sun,J. T. Jayne +10 more
TL;DR: The Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ACSM) as mentioned in this paper uses an aerodynamic particle focusing lens combined with high vacuum thermal particle vaporization, electron impact ionization, and mass spectrometry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Soot Particle Aerosol Mass Spectrometer: Development, Validation, and Initial Application
Timothy B. Onasch,A. Trimborn,Edward C. Fortner,J. T. Jayne,Gregory L. Kok,Leah R. Williams,Paul Davidovits,D. R. Worsnop +7 more
TL;DR: The Soot Particle Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (SP-AMS) as discussed by the authors was developed to measure the chemical and physical properties of particles containing refractory black carbon (rBC).
