TL;DR: A unifying model framework describing the atmospheric evolution of OA that is constrained by high–time-resolution measurements of its composition, volatility, and oxidation state is presented, which can serve as a basis for improving parameterizations in regional and global models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ubiquity and dominance of oxygenated species in organic aerosols in anthropogenically-influenced Northern Hemisphere midlatitudes

TL;DR: In this article, organic aerosol data acquired by the AMS in 37 field campaigns were deconvolved into hydrocarbon-like OA (HOA) and several types of oxygenated OA components.
Journal ArticleDOI
Size Matters More Than Chemistry for Cloud-Nucleating Ability of Aerosol Particles
Ulrike Dusek,Göran Frank,Lea Hildebrandt,Lea Hildebrandt,Joachim Curtius,Johannes Schneider,S. Walter,Duli Chand,Frank Drewnick,Silke S. Hings,D Jung,Stephan Borrmann,Meinrat O. Andreae +12 more
TL;DR: Size-resolved cloud condensation nuclei spectra measured for various aerosol types at a non-urban site in Germany showed that CCN concentrations are mainly determined by the aerosol number size distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scheeren,Jean Sciare,Hans Schlager,Martin G. Schultz,Peter Siegmund,Benedikt Steil,Euripides G. Stephanou,Philip Stier,M. Traub,Carsten Warneke,Jonathan Williams,Helmut Ziereis +32 more
TL;DR: The Mediterranean Intensive Oxidant Study, performed in the summer of 2001, uncovered air pollution layers from the surface to an altitude of 15 kilometers, causing air pollution standards to be exceeded throughout the region.
Global Air Pollution Cross Roads over the Mediterranean.

Schultz,Peter Siegmund,Benedikt Steil,Stephanou E.g.,Philip Stier,M. Traub,Carsten Warneke,Jonathan Williams,Helmut Ziereis +30 more
TL;DR: The Mediterranean Intensive Oxidant Study as mentioned in this paper uncovered air pollution layers from the surface to an altitude of 15 kilometers, where air pollution standards are exceeded throughout the region, caused by West and East European pollution from the north.
