Journal ArticleDOI
A practical and user-friendly toxicity classification system with microbiotests for natural waters and wastewaters.
Guido Persoone,Blahoslav Maršálek,Irina Blinova,Andrea Törökné,Dzidra Zarina,Levonas Manusadzianas,Grzegorz Nałęcz-Jawecki,Lucica Tofan,Nadejda Stepanova,Livia Tothova,Boris Kolar +10 more
TL;DR: An alternative toxicity classification system that was easier to apply and substantially more cost effective than any of the earlier methods was developed and applied in the framework of a cooperation agreement between the Flemish community in Belgium and central and eastern Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Response of the charophyte Nitellopsis obtusa to heavy metals at the cellular, cell membrane, and enzyme levels.
Levonas Manusadzianas,Gemir Maksimov,Jurate Darginaviciene,Sigita Jurkoniene,Kazys Sadauskas,Rimantas Vitkus +5 more
TL;DR: All three end points identified two separate HM groups according to their toxicity to N. obtusa: Co, Ni, and Cr comprised a group of less toxic metals, whereas Hg, Cu, and Cd comprised agroup of more toxic metals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Leachate toxicity assessment by responses of algae Nitellopsis obtusa membrane ATPase and cell resting potential, and with Daphtoxkit F magna test.
Sigita Jurkoniene,Gemir Maksimov,Jurate Darginaviciene,Kazys Sadauskas,Rimantas Vitkus,Levonas Manusadzianas +5 more
TL;DR: A micro-scale bioassay based on 50% inhibition of K(+), Mg(2+)-ATPase activity in a microsomal fraction isolated from Nitellopsis obtusa cells was developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stress responses of bivalve mollusc Unio tumidus from two areas to ibuprofen, microplastic and their mixture
V K Martynyuk,Brigita Gylytė,Tetiana Matskiv,Vira Khoma,Halyna Tulaidan,Lesya Gnatyshyna,K. Orlova-Hudim,Levonas Manusadzianas,Oksana Stoliar +8 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Indication of the impact of environmental stress on the responses of the bivalve mollusk Unio tumidus to ibuprofen and microplastics based on biomarkers of reductive stress and apoptosis.
V K Martynyuk,Vira Khoma,Tetiana Matskiv,Vitaliy Baranovsky,K. Orlova-Hudim,Brigita Gylytė,R. V. Symchak,Oksana Matciuk,Lesya Gnatyshyna,Levonas Manusadzianas,Oksana Stoliar +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the impact of population-dependent adaptations on the ability to react to common micropollutants was evaluated by comparing two distinct populations, pure (Pr) and contaminated (Ct), in their exposures to microplastics.
