Journal ArticleDOI

Role of Kupffer cells in host defense and liver disease.

TL;DR: Kupffer cells constitute 80–90% of the tissue macrophages present in the body, and are therefore constantly exposed to gut‐derived bacteria, microbial debris and bacterial endotoxins, known to activate macrophage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tauroursodeoxycholic acid inserts the apical conjugate export pump, Mrp2, into canalicular membranes and stimulates organic anion secretion by protein kinase C-dependent mechanisms in cholestatic rat liver.

TL;DR: TUDCA may enhance the secretory capacity of cholestatic hepatocytes by stimulation of exocytosis and insertion of transport proteins into apical membranes via PKC‐dependent mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term therapy and retreatment of hepatorenal syndrome type 1 with ornipressin and dopamine.

TL;DR: Evaluating the therapeutic potential of the vasoconstrictor ornipressin plus dopamine in the treatment of the most severe form of HRS type 1 found it can be a useful therapeutic option in patients with H RS type 1, especially as bridge to liver transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glutathione protects the rat liver against reperfusion injury after prolonged warm ischemia.

TL;DR: Intravenous GSH administration during reperfusions of ischemic livers prevents reperfusion injury in rats and could be introduced to human liver surgery because GSH is well tolerable also in man.
