Journal ArticleDOI
Mouse pulmonary dose- and time course-responses induced by exposure to multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
Dale W. Porter,Ann F. Hubbs,Robert R. Mercer,Robert R. Mercer,Nianqiang Wu,Michael G. Wolfarth,Krishnan Sriram,Stephen S. Leonard,Lori A. Battelli,Diane Schwegler-Berry,Sherry Friend,Michael E. Andrew,Bean T. Chen,Shuji Tsuruoka,Morinobu Endo,Vincent Castranova,Vincent Castranova +16 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the pulmonary toxicity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in mice indicated that MWCNT exposure rapidly produces significant adverse health outcomes in the lung, and the observation that M WCNT reach the pleura after aspiration exposure indicates that more extensive investigations are needed to fully assess if pleural penetration results in any adverse health outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Area under the curve and other summary indicators of repeated waking cortisol measurements.
Desta Fekedulegn,Michael E. Andrew,Cecil M. Burchfiel,John M. Violanti,Tara A. Hartley,Luenda E. Charles,Diane B. Miller +6 more
TL;DR: Principal components analyses revealed that summary parameters derived from repeated cortisol measurements can be grouped into two meaningful general categories: measures of the magnitude of response andmeasures of the pattern of response over time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of a dietary inflammatory index with inflammatory indices and metabolic syndrome among police officers.
Michael D. Wirth,James B. Burch,Nitin Shivappa,John M. Violanti,Cecil M. Burchfiel,Desta Fekedulegn,Michael E. Andrew,Tara A. Hartley,Diane B. Miller,Anna Mnatsakanova,Luenda E. Charles,Susan E. Steck,Thomas G. Hurley,John E. Vena,James R. Hébert +14 more
TL;DR: A pro-inflammatory diet was associated with elevated CRP and with the glucose intolerance component of MetSyn, which was more prevalent among officers in DII quartile 4 than among those in quartile 1.
Journal Article
Recruiting African-American research participation in the Jackson Heart Study: methods, response rates, and sample description.
Sonja R. Fuqua,Sharon B. Wyatt,Michael E. Andrew,Daniel F. Sarpong,Frances Henderson,Margie F. Cunningham,Herman A. Taylor +6 more
TL;DR: The JHS experiences provide useful lessons for observational epidemiological studies recruiting African-American research participation and co-participation of researchers and researched in study design and realistic evidence of community benefit were crucial to recruitment success.
Journal ArticleDOI
Promotion of lung adenocarcinoma following inhalation exposure to multi-walled carbon nanotubes
Linda M. Sargent,Dale W. Porter,Lauren M. Staska,Ann F. Hubbs,David T. Lowry,Lori A. Battelli,Katelyn J. Siegrist,Michael L. Kashon,Robert R. Mercer,Alison K. Bauer,Bean T. Chen,Jeffrey L. Salisbury,David G. Frazer,Walter McKinney,Michael E. Andrew,Shuji Tsuruoka,Morinobu Endo,Kara Fluharty,Vince Castranova,Steven H. Reynolds +19 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that some MWCNT exposures promote the growth and neoplastic progression of initiated lung cells in B6C3F1 mice, indicating that caution should be used to limit human exposures to M WCNT.
