TL;DR: Liquid based anal smears had a high sensitivity for detection of ASIL but a low specificity for predicting the severity of the abnormality in subsequent biopsy, suggesting that all patients with a diagnosis of ASC-US and above be recommended for high resolution anoscopy with biopsy.
