Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of genes that are associated with DNA repeats in prokaryotes.

TL;DR: A novel family of repetitive DNA sequences that is present among both domains of the prokaryotes but absent from eukaryotes or viruses is studied, characterized by direct repeats, varying in size from 21 to 37 bp, interspaced by similarly sized non‐repetitive sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic Variation and Evolutionary Origin of the Direct Repeat Locus of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex Bacteria

TL;DR: The data strongly suggest that the polymorphism in clinical isolates is the result of successive deletions of single discrete DVRs or of multiple contiguous DTVs from a primordial DR region containing many more DVRS than seen in present day isolates and that virtually no scrambling of DVR's took place during evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of genes affecting Salmonella enterica serovar enteritidis infection of chicken macrophages.

TL;DR: Screening of 7,680 Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis mutants for attenuation in a chicken macrophage infection model yielded a series of mutants including several with defects in previously unrecognized Salmoneella virulence genes, including the pbpA2 gene, belonging to the penicillin binding protein gene family.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Plasmid pOR1 from Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale and Construction of a Shuttle Plasmid

TL;DR: The development of a transformation system that enables genetic modification of O. rhinotracheale, fulfilling the criteria for a shuttle plasmid that can be used for transformation, targeted mutagenesis, and the construction of defined attenuated vaccine strains is reported.
