Achieving sustainability in manufacturing requires a holistic view spanning not just the product, and the manufacturing processes involved in its fabrication, but also the entire supply chain, including the manufacturing systems across multiple product life-cycles. This requires improved models, metrics for sustainability evaluation, and optimization techniques at the product, process, and system levels. This paper presents an overview of recent trends and new concepts in the development of sustainable products, processes and systems. In particular, recent trends in developing improved sustainability scoring methods for products and processes, and predictive models and optimization techniques for sustainable manufacturing processes, focusing on dry, near-dry and cryogenic machining as examples, are presented.

Sustainable manufacturing: Modeling and optimization challenges at the product, process and system levels

Over the last decade, the concept of the circular economy has regained attention, especially related to efforts to achieve a more sustainable society. The ‘revival’ of the circular economy has been accompanied by controversies and confusions across different actors in science and practice. With this article we attempt at contributing to advanced clarity in the field and providing a heuristic that is useful in practice. Initially, we take a focus on the historical development of the concept of circular economy and value retention options (ROs) for products and materials aiming for increased circularity. We propose to distinguish three phases in the evolution of the circular economy and argue that the concept – in its dominant framing – is not as new as frequently claimed. Having established this background knowledge, we give insights into ‘how far we are’ globally, with respect to the implementation of circularity, arguing that high levels of circularity have already been reached in different parts of the globe with regard to longer loop value retention options, such as energy recovery and recycling. Subsequently, we show that the confusion surrounding the circular economy is more far reaching. We summarize the divergent perspectives on retention options and unite the most common views a 10R typology. From our analyses, we conclude that policymakers and businesses should focus their efforts on realization of the more desirable, shorter loop retention options, like remanufacturing, refurbishing and repurposing – yet with a view on feasibility and overall system effects. Scholars, on the other hand, should assist the parties contributing to an increased circular economy in practice by taking up a more active role in attaining consensus in conceptualizing the circular economy.

The circular economy: New or Refurbished as CE 3.0? — Exploring Controversies in the Conceptualization of the Circular Economy through a Focus on History and Resource Value Retention Options

Conventional supply chain management (SCM) practices have focused only on three life-cycle stages: pre-manufacturing, manufacturing and use. The fourth stage, post-use, probably the most important from a sustainability perspective, is often addressed on a piece-meal basis, only when such practices deliver economic benefits. This paper introduces a total life-cycle-based approach to sustainable SCM (SSCM) that extends beyond the 3R's of reduce, reuse and recycle to 6R's that includes recover, redesign and remanufacture. A new definition for SSCM that adopts the total life-cycle approach and triple bottom-line (TBL) is presented. Two existing supply chain frameworks: supply chain operations reference (SCOR) model and the global supply chain forum (GSCF) framework, are evaluated in the context of SSCM to improve economic growth while ensuring environmental protection and societal well-being. The review finds that neither framework explicitly captures the non-economic aspects of SSCM, but the broader view of the GSCF framework offers much promise.

Extending total life-cycle thinking to sustainable supply chain design

Predicting Indian electricity exchange‐traded market prices: SARIMA and MLP approach

Purpose- In the recent years, there is a high decline in the financial intermediation cost all thanks to the increased competition and technological advancement. The aim of this research is to find the awareness level and frequency of using FinTech during and after COVID-19. We also study FinTech in the terms of geographical profile of respondents. 
Design/methodology/approach- The data used in this research are both Primary and Secondary. Primary data was gathered from 143 respondents through online structured questionnaire. The survey was conducted in the State Haryana. The study is descriptive and exploratory in nature. Findings- The findings of the paper revealed that the frequency and the use of Digital financial services and FinTech increased after the pandemic. The needs of the people increase its demand. Further, the geographic profile of respondents has no influence on the use of FinTech but gender and annual income have significant influence on the frequency of using DFS on monthly basis. Practical implications- Based on the findings, the awareness level and frequency of using FinTech has been revealed. Suggestions and Recommendations have also been passed on how FinTech helps in accelerating financial inclusion and how the use of FinTech can be increased in the rural areas. Originality/value- The use of FinTech is increasing day by day, there is a need to analyse the use of FinTech amongst the section of population, especially those who are living in rural areas. This research also examines the role of FinTech in accelerating financial Inclusion. The motive of financial inclusion is also to provide financial services to each and every section of society including rural areas. FinTech and Digital Finance: Foes or Friends after COVID-19 Pandemic?

Purpose: The aim of the study is to examine the impact of social media platforms on food tourist’s perception towards selection of food outlets.
 
Theoretical framework: Social-media is plethora of information. When information is provided through social media, it also affects the choices and perception of the people. As customers are tend to influence through information, word of mouth, experiences, reviews and of course marketing technique which push the customer to buy the product. The marketing technique of social media promotion for tourist’s products gains a wide range of customers as pictures and videos creates a presumption of the services they will get in future.
 
Design/methodology/ approach: The study is an exploratory study for which researcher used a sample size of 90 tourists visiting Delhi NCR, India whose prime motive for travelling to Delhi is food tourism. T-Test has been used for the purpose of analysis.
 
Findings: It has been observed that choices of tourist’s are widely dependent on social media these days, thus, affecting the perception of the tourists towards the selection of food outlets.
 
Research, practical, social implication: Being the relatively new topic in research academia, the research conducted would help researchers for understanding the choices based on the perception of the food tourists, to widen the food tourism market and help the local community understand how their authentic food can be an attraction for a tourist while providing them with social, cultural and economic benefits.
 
Originality/value: The study is one of its kind which focuses on food tourism linking the relationship between the impact of social media on perception of food tourist while selecting the food outlet.

Impact of Social Media Platforms on Tourist’s Perception for the Selection of Food Outlets: A Case of Delhi NCR (India)

The main purpose of this paper is to identify relationship between typology of human resource analytics (HR analytics) used in different types of strategic firms (cost leadership and differentiator) with or without use of enterprise social media (ESM), during talent management (TM) in the organization. Business analytics (BA) has attracted growing attention mainly due to the phenomena of big data. While, studies suggest that business analytics is positively related to organizational strategy. Contingency theory holds that HR management methods are selected in accordance with the types of business strategy. This paper shows alignment of business strategy to HR strategy to HR analytics for organization’s long term success and performance. More specifically, we present a conceptual framework, which illustrates how cost leadership (CL) and differentiator (DIFF) strategy firms differ regarding their use of different HR analytics types (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive) with or without use of Enterprise social media (ESM). Chi-square analysis was used to test the interdependence.
