If we accept that entrepreneurs are influenced by culture, then the simplest possible unit of research for understanding entrepreneurship is not the entrepreneur. Nor is it a laboratory study of individuals nor even a field study comparing entrepreneurs, but rather it is useful to have a case study in which the important aspects of environment are analysed and understood. It is doubtful, then, that a mail survey or even interviews could be sufficient for a researcher to truly gain a holistic understanding of the entrepreneurial process. read more read less

The 'second wave' of indigenous development, after direct economic assistance from outside, lies in indigenous efforts to rebuild their 'nations' and improve their lot through entrepreneurial enterprise. This paper suggests that there is a distinguishable kind of activity appropriately called 'indigenous entrepreneurship'. We begin by defining the indigenous population and noting some general facts about their numbers and distribution. In an effort to discern the potential for development on indigenous peoples' own terms, we then explore three frameworks for understanding efforts at development, including indigenous development: modernisation theory, dependency theory and (at somewhat greater length) regulation theory. After distinguishing 'indigenous' from 'ethnic' entrepreneurship, we conclude by identifying a number of lead questions that present themselves at the outset of an enquiry into the nature of indigenous entrepreneurship. read more read less

We are suggesting new approaches in assessing the Entrepreneurship Teaching Programme (ETP). They are based on the theory of planned behaviour which could allow us to measure, under the influences of independent variables related to ETP, attitude changes towards the entrepreneurial behaviour, attitude changes in relation to subjective norms, attitude changes concerning perceived entrepreneurial behaviour control and finally, changes in entrepreneurial intentions. The main research article idea is to consider that it is expected and also feasible to design a dynamic tool using the theory of planned behaviour to assess the ETP and so to measure variations on entrepreneurial intention throughout the education process. read more read less

The paper develops a conceptual understanding of the farmer as entrepreneur and provides an innovative theoretical framework based on a modelling process and taxonomy of the farmer, which enables the complexities of the dynamic changing forces which act upon the life world of the farmer to be framed. A number of key themes emerge: Farmers are a particularly rich area for study in the area of entrepreneurial capability; the myths surrounding farmers' capability to be entrepreneurial require examination; farmers are businesspeople in that they run businesses, but in practice they do not necessarily have well-defined business skills; the barriers to becoming entrepreneurial for farmers are greater than in other sectors. read more read less

Ajzen’s model of planned behaviour was used to measure the impact of specific entrepreneurship course characteristics on entrepreneurial intention. Course characteristics with a hypothesised positive influence on entrepreneurial intention were identified through literature research and an exploratory study. The hypotheses were tested with a quantitative study which was designed as an ex ante/ex post measurement. Course elements such as business planning activities, role models, student-oriented teaching and feedback processes are efficient components to increase entrepreneurial intention through its antecedents. read more read less
