Global indirect aerosol effects: a review

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of aerosols on the climate system are discussed and different approaches how the climatic implications of these effects can be estimated globally as well as improvements that are needed in global climate models in order to better represent indirect aerosol effects are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The CloudSat mission and the A-train: a new dimension of space-based observations of clouds and precipitation

TL;DR: CloudSat as discussed by the authors is a satellite experiment designed to measure the vertical structure of clouds from space, and once launched, CloudSat will orbit in formation as part of a constellation of satellites (the A-Train) that includes NASA's Aqua and Aura satellites, a NASA-CNES lidar satellite (CALIPSO), and a CNES satellite carrying a polarimeter (PARASOL).
Journal ArticleDOI

The National Center for Atmospheric Research Community Climate Model: CCM3*

TL;DR: The latest version of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Community Climate Model (CCM3) is described in this article, where the changes in both physical and dynamical formulation from CCM2 to CCM3 are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transport impacts on atmosphere and climate: Shipping

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an assessment of the contribution of gaseous and particulate emissions from oceangoing shipping to anthropogenic emissions and air quality, and assess the degradation in human health and climate change created by these emissions.

Impact of Aerosols on Convective Clouds and Precipitation

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of aerosols on convective precipitation processes has been studied in the context of cloud resolution models (CRMs) and the results from (CRM) simulations.
