Journal ArticleDOI

The role of environmental transmission in recurrent avian influenza epidemics.

TL;DR: It is proposed that, in addition to direct fecal/oral transmission, birds may become infected by ingesting virions that have long persisted in the environment, and a new host–pathogen model is designed that combines within-season transmission dynamics, between-season migration and reproduction, and environmental variation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Complex random vectors and ICA models: identifiability, uniqueness, and separability

TL;DR: The conditions for identifiability, separability and uniqueness of linear complex valued independent component analysis (ICA) models are established and the Darmois-Skitovich theorem for complex-valued models is extended.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Objective Justification of Bayesianism I: Measuring Inaccuracy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derive Bayesianism from the following norm: Accuracy, i.e., an agent should minimize the inaccuracy of her partial beliefs, and make this norm mathematically precise.
Journal ArticleDOI

Risk Preferences and their Robust Representation

TL;DR: This work describes the subjective notion of risk by means of a risk order and focuses on the context invariant features of diversification and monotonicity, which allows for a differentiated interpretation depending on the underlying context that is illustrated in different settings.
Journal ArticleDOI

Risk measures: rationality and diversification

TL;DR: In this article, a dual characterization of quasiconvex cash-subadditive risk measures is provided and necessary and sufficient conditions for their law invariance are established, as well as an alternative characterization of the actuarial mean value premium principle.

Inequality with Ordinal Data

TL;DR: In this paper, an alternative approach to inequality analysis that is rigorous, has a natural interpretation, and embeds both the ordinal data problem and the well-known cardinal data problem is proposed.
