Antimicrobial Use Guidelines for Treatment of Urinary Tract Disease in Dogs and Cats: Antimicrobial Guidelines Working Group of the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases
J. Scott Weese,Joseph M Blondeau,Dawn M. Boothe,Edward B. Breitschwerdt,Luca Guardabassi,Andrew Hillier,David H. Lloyd,Mark G. Papich,Shelley C. Rankin,John D. Turnidge,John D. Turnidge,Jane E. Sykes +11 more
TL;DR: The guidelines for diagnosis and management of urinary tract infections were created by a Working Group of the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases (ISCIID) in this paper, which is a common reason for use (and misuse, improper use, and overuse) of antimicrobials in dogs and cats.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ACVD task force on canine atopic dermatitis (I): incidence and prevalence.
Andrew Hillier,Craig E. Griffin +1 more
TL;DR: Environmental factors associated with the increasing incidence of atopic dermatitis in humans are consistently found in the environment of dogs, and it would seem likely that a similar increase in the incidence of this disease would be occurring also in dogs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guidelines for the diagnosis and antimicrobial therapy of canine superficial bacterial folliculitis (Antimicrobial Guidelines Working Group of the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases).
Andrew Hillier,David H. Lloyd,J. Scott Weese,Joseph M Blondeau,Dawn M. Boothe,Edward B. Breitschwerdt,Luca Guardabassi,Mark G. Papich,Shelley C. Rankin,John D. Turnidge,Jane E. Sykes +10 more
TL;DR: Optimal management of SBF will improve antimicrobial use and reduce selection of MRSP and other multidrug-resistant bacteria affecting animal and human health.
Journal Article
Microbial flora and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of isolated pathogens from the horizontal ear canal and middle ear in dogs with otitis media.
TL;DR: In dogs with chronic otitis externa, otitis media often exists even when there is an intact tympanic membrane, so to choose appropriate antimicrobial agents, bacterial culture and susceptibility testing of swab specimens from the horizontal ear canal and middle ear should be performed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ACVD task force on canine atopic dermatitis (XV): fundamental concepts in clinical diagnosis.
Douglas J. DeBoer,Andrew Hillier +1 more
TL;DR: It is important to understand that allergy testing, in whatever form, is not appropriately used early in the patient evaluation as a screening test, and should be reserved, after a firm clinical diagnosis of AD has been made, to implement allergen avoidance schemes or to select allergens to be incorporated in immunotherapy formulations.
