Combined U–Pb and Hf isotope LA-(MC-)ICP-MS analyses of detrital zircons: Comparison with SHRIMP and new constraints for the provenance and age of an Armorican metasediment in Central Germany

TL;DR: Uranium-lead ages obtained by LA-ICP-MS analyses of zircon cores from a high-grade Armorican metasediment from the Mid-German Crystalline Rise, Central Germany, yield results which are identical to, but more precise than those previously obtained by SHRIMP dating.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zircon formation versus zircon alteration — New insights from combined U–Pb and Lu–Hf in-situ LA-ICP-MS analyses, and consequences for the interpretation of Archean zircon from the Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt

TL;DR: In this paper, the combination of U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotope data obtained by laser ablation-inductive coupled plasma-mass spectrometry provides a powerful tool for distinguishing zircon domains grown during several metamorphic or magmatic events from altered domains affected by complete single or multiple Pb-loss.
Journal ArticleDOI

Natural fractionation of 238U/235U

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report variations of the 238U/235U isotope ratio in natural samples (basalts, granites, seawater, corals, black shales, suboxic sediments, ferromanganese crusts/nodules and BIFs) of ∼1.3.
Journal ArticleDOI

Precise and accurate in situ U-Pb dating of zircon with high sample throughput by automated LA-SF-ICP-MS

TL;DR: In this article, an automated method for U-Pb age dating of zircon by single collector laser ablation-magnetic sectorfield-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-SF-ICP-MS) is presented.
