Inhibition of Ras for cancer treatment: the search continues

TL;DR: An overview of past and ongoing strategies to inhibit oncogenic Ras in cancer is presented and genome-wide unbiased genetic screens have identified novel directions for future anti-Ras drug discovery.
Journal ArticleDOI

The All-Data-Based Evolutionary Hypothesis of Ciliated Protists with a Revised Classification of the Phylum Ciliophora (Eukaryota, Alveolata).

TL;DR: The molecular dataset was expanded with representatives from 55 orders and all major lineages and the monophyly of classes Phyllopharyngea, Karyorelictea, Armophorea, Prostomatea, Plagiopylea, Colpodea and Heterotrichea are confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The oncogenic kinase Pim-1 is modulated by K-Ras signaling and mediates transformed growth and radioresistance in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cells

TL;DR: It is shown that Pim-1 is required for PDAC cell growth, invasion and radioresistance downstream of oncogenic K-Ras, and this work helps elucidate the role of PIM-1 in PDAC growth transformation and validate Pin-1 kinase as a potential molecular marker for mutated K- Ras activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial Eukaryote Diversity and Activity in the Water Column of the South China Sea Based on DNA and RNA High Throughput Sequencing.

TL;DR: Light is shed on the diversity and activity of microbial eukaryotes in the water column of a tropical oligotrophic ocean and their potential contributions in the downward transportation of organic material from the surface ocean to the deep via the biological pump.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic Identities of Cryptic Species in the Strombidium stylifer/apolatum/oculatum Cluster, Including a Description of Strombidium rassoulzadegani n. sp.

TL;DR: To assess diversity among cryptic species of the ciliate genus Strombidium, small subunit ribosomal DNA gene (SSU‐rDNA) was characterized from several lineages that had been identified previously as distinct based on the internal transcribed spacer regions of the rDNA locus.
