Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases in Angiogenesis and Cancer.
Saray Quintero-Fabián,Rodrigo Arreola,Enrique Becerril-Villanueva,Julio César Torres-Romero,Victor Arana-Argáez,Julio Lara-Riegos,Mario Alberto Ramírez-Camacho,María Elizbeth Alvarez-Sánchez +7 more
TL;DR: This review analyzes recent knowledge on MMPs and their participation in angiogenesis through the modulation of the balance between pro- and anti-angiogenic factors and concludes that Matrix metalloproteinases participate in the disruption, tumor neovascularization, and subsequent metastasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
CXCR5+ T helper cells mediate protective immunity against tuberculosis
Samantha Slight,Javier Rangel-Moreno,Radha Gopal,Yinyao Lin,Beth A. Fallert Junecko,Smriti Mehra,Moisés Selman,Enrique Becerril-Villanueva,Javier Baquera-Heredia,Lenin Pavón,Deepak Kaushal,Todd A. Reinhart,Troy D. Randall,Shabaana A. Khader +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CXCR5 expression in T cells mediated correct T cell localization within TB granulomas, promoted efficient macrophage activation, protected against Mtb infection, and facilitated lymphoid follicle formation, and CD4+CX CR5+ T cells play a protective role in the immune response against TB.
Journal ArticleDOI
S100A8/A9 Proteins Mediate Neutrophilic Inflammation and Lung Pathology during Tuberculosis
Radha Gopal,Leticia Monin,Diana Torres,Samantha Slight,Smriti Mehra,Kyle C. McKenna,Beth A. Fallert Junecko,Todd A. Reinhart,Jay K. Kolls,Renata Baez-Saldaña,Alfredo Cruz-Lagunas,Tatiana S. Rodriguez-Reyna,Nathella Pavan Kumar,Phillipe Tessier,Johannes Roth,Moisés Selman,Enrique Becerril-Villanueva,Javier Baquera-Heredia,Bridgette M. Cumming,Victoria O. Kasprowicz,Adrie J. C. Steyn,Subash Babu,Deepak Kaushal,Joaquín Zúñiga,Thomas Vogl,Javier Rangel-Moreno,Shabaana A. Khader +26 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in human patients with active TB and in nonhuman primate models of M. tuberculosis infection, neutrophils producing S100 proteins are dominant within the inflammatory lung granulomas seen during active TB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunomodulatory Effects Mediated by Serotonin
Rodrigo Arreola,Enrique Becerril-Villanueva,Carlos S. Cruz-Fuentes,Marco A. Velasco-Velázquez,María Eugenia Garcés-Alvarez,Gabriela Hurtado-Alvarado,Saray Quintero-Fabián,Lenin Pavón +7 more
TL;DR: The pharmacological regulation of the serotonergic system may modulate immune function and provide therapeutic alternatives for these diseases, including major depression, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer disease, psoriasis, arthritis, allergies, and asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunomodulatory Effects Mediated by Dopamine.
Rodrigo Arreola,Samantha Alvarez-Herrera,Gilberto Pérez-Sánchez,Enrique Becerril-Villanueva,Carlos S. Cruz-Fuentes,Enrique Octavio Flores-Gutierrez,María Eugenia Garcés-Alvarez,Dora Luz de la Cruz-Aguilera,Emilio Medina-Rivero,Gabriela Hurtado-Alvarado,Saray Quintero-Fabián,Lenin Pavón +11 more
TL;DR: Dopamine (DA), a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS), has modulatory functions at the systemic level and is associated with such processes as respiratory burst, cytokine and antibody secretion, chemotaxis, apoptosis, and cytotoxicity.
