The Ocean Reanalyses Intercomparison Project (ORA-IP)
Magdalena Balmaseda,Fabrice Hernandez,Andrea Storto,Matthew D. Palmer,Oscar Alves,Li Shi,Gregory C. Smith,Takahiro Toyoda,Maria Valdivieso,Bernard Barnier,David Behringer,Timothy P. Boyer,You-Soon Chang,G. Chepurin,Nicolas Ferry,Gael Forget,Yosuke Fujii,Simon A. Good,Stephanie Guinehut,Keith Haines,Yoichi Ishikawa,Sarah Keeley,Armin Köhl,Tong Lee,Matthew Martin,Simona Masina,Shuhei Masuda,Benoit Meyssignac,Kristian Mogensen,Laurent Parent,K. A. Caltabiano,Kirsten Wilmer-Becker,Fabienne Gaillard +47 more
TL;DR: In this article, a multi-reanalysis ensemble is used to estimate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the ocean state and to estimate uncertainty levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sea surface freshening inferred from SMOS and ARGO salinity: impact of rain
TL;DR: In this paper, the accuracy of SMOS SSS averaged over 10 days, 100 × 100 km2 in the open ocean and estimated by comparison to ARGO (Array for Real-Time Geostrophic Oceanography) SSS is on the order of 0.3-0.4 in tropical and subtropical regions and 0.5 in a cold region.
Journal ArticleDOI
In Situ-Based Reanalysis of the Global Ocean Temperature and Salinity with ISAS: Variability of the Heat Content and Steric Height
Fabienne Gaillard,Thierry Reynaud,Virginie Thierry,Nicolas Kolodziejczyk,Karina von Schuckmann +4 more
TL;DR: The In Situ Analysis System (ISAS) was developed to produce gridded fields of temperature and salinity that preserve as much as possible the time and space sampling capabilities of the Argo network of profiling floats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality Control of Large Argo Datasets
Fabienne Gaillard,Emmanuelle Autret,Virginie Thierry,Philippe Galaup,Christine Coatanoan,Thomas Loubrieu +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown here how the classical method of optimal analysis can be used to validate very large datasets before operational or scientific use.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variability of the meridional overturning circulation at the Greenland-Portugal OVIDE section from 1993 to 2010
Herlé Mercier,Pascale Lherminier,Artem Sarafanov,Fabienne Gaillard,Nathalie Daniault,Damien Desbruyères,Anastasia Falina,Bruno Ferron,Claire Gourcuff,Thierry Huck,Virginie Thierry +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the variability of the gyre circulation, the MOC and heat flux as quantified from a joint analysis of hydrographic and velocity data from six repeats of the Greenland to Portugal OVIDE section (1997-2010).
