Altimetric assimilation with water property conservation

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple method for assimilating surface pressure data into a 21-level, eddy-resolving Cox model in a double-gyre configuration is introduced, where a conservation principle is used to derive the new water column structure based on rearrangement of the preexisting water masses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sea ice decline and 21st century trans‐Arctic shipping routes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantify, using CMIP5 global climate model simulations calibrated to remove spatial biases, how projected sea ice loss might increase opportunities for Arctic-transit shipping.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Ocean Reanalyses Intercomparison Project (ORA-IP)

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-reanalysis ensemble is used to estimate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the ocean state and to estimate uncertainty levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling the paleocirculation of the Mediterranean: The Last Glacial Maximum and the Holocene with emphasis on the formation of sapropel S 1

TL;DR: In this article, an ocean general circulation model is used to simulate the thermohaline circulation in the Mediterranean sea during the last glacial maximum and the Holocene, when the sapropel S1 was deposited.
