Journal ArticleDOI
The versatile use of exhaled volatile organic compounds in human health and disease
Agnes W. Boots,Joep J B N van Berkel,Jan W. Dallinga,Agnieszka Smolinska,Emile F Wouters,Frederik J. van Schooten +5 more
TL;DR: The currently available methodologies regarding sampling, sample analysis and data processing as well as their advantages and potential drawbacks are described and different application possibilities of VOC profiling are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolomics of Volatile Organic Compounds in Cystic Fibrosis Patients and Controls
Charlotte M. H. H. T. Robroeks,Joep J B N van Berkel,Jan W. Dallinga,Quirijn Jöbsis,Luc J. I. Zimmermann,Han J. E. Hendriks,Miel F M Wouters,Chris van der Grinten,Kim D G van de Kant,Frederik-Jan van Schooten,Edward Dompeling +10 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that metabolomics of VOCs in exhaled breath was possible in a reproducible way and was able to discriminate not only between CF patients and controls but also betweenCF patients with or without Pseudomonas colonization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exhaled volatile organic compounds predict exacerbations of childhood asthma in a 1-year prospective study
Charlotte M. H. H. T. Robroeks,Joep J B N van Berkel,Quirijn Jöbsis,Frederik-Jan van Schooten,Jan W. Dallinga,Emiel F.M. Wouters,Edward Dompeling +6 more
TL;DR: A combination of different exhaled VOCs is able to predict exacerbations of childhood asthma, and the time course and chemical background of the most predictive V OCs are determined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exhaled breath profiling in diagnosing wheezy preschool children.
Kim D G van de Kant,Joep J B N van Berkel,Quirijn Jöbsis,Valéria Lima Passos,Ester M.M. Klaassen,Linda J T M van der Sande,Onno C. P. van Schayck,Johan C. de Jongste,Frederik J. van Schooten,Eduard Derks,Edward Dompeling,Jan W. Dallinga +11 more
TL;DR: Assessment of VOCs in exhaled breath is feasible in young children and VOC profiles are able to distinguish children with and without recurrent wheeze with a reasonable accuracy, paves the way for additional research on V OCs in preschool wheezing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defining adult asthma endotypes by clinical features and patterns of volatile organic compounds in exhaled air
Norbert Meyer,Jan W. Dallinga,Sarah Janine Nuss,Edwin J.C. Moonen,Joep J B N van Berkel,Cezmi A. Akdis,Frederik J. van Schooten,Günter Menz +7 more
TL;DR: Clinical presentation of asthma and inflammatory mechanisms in the airways should be considered for classification of asthma subtypes, as well as cluster analyses based on clinical and demographic information.
