Journal ArticleDOI

Uncovering the role of p53 splice variants in human malignancy: a clinical perspective

TL;DR: The understanding of the regulation of p53 isoform expression and their biological activities in relation to the cellular context would constitute an important step toward the improvement of the diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive values of p 53 in cancer treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Isoforms of the p53 Protein

TL;DR: It is established that the p53 isoforms can regulate cell-fate outcome in response to stress, by modulating p53 transcriptional activity in a promoter and stress-dependent manner and it is determined that the dual gene structure is conserved in Drosophila and in zebrafish p53 genes.
Journal ArticleDOI

p53 Isoforms: An Intracellular Microprocessor?

TL;DR: Current knowledge about the biological activities of p53 isoforms are summarized and a molecular mechanism conciliating the current knowledge on p53 and integrating p63 and p73 isoforms in the p53 pathway is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

p53 directly transactivates Δ133p53α, regulating cell fate outcome in response to DNA damage

TL;DR: It is reported here that in response to a low dose of doxorubicin, p53 directly transactivates the human p53 internal promoter, inducing Δ133p53α protein expression, which inhibits p53-dependent apoptosis and G1 arrest without inhibiting p 53-dependent G2 arrest.
