TL;DR: In the early 1990s, the National Kidney Foundation (K/DOQI) developed a set of clinical practice guidelines to define chronic kidney disease and to classify stages in the progression of kidney disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Understanding the causes of kidney transplant failure: the dominant role of antibody-mediated rejection and nonadherence.
Joana Sellarés,D. G. de Freitas,Michael Mengel,Jeff Reeve,Gunilla Einecke,Banu Sis,Luis G. Hidalgo,Konrad S. Famulski,Arthur J. Matas,Philip F. Halloran +9 more
TL;DR: This prospective cohort indicates that many actual failures after indication biopsies manifest phenotypic features of antibody‐mediated or mixed rejection and also underscores the major role of nonadherence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Consequences of Kidney Donation
Hassan N. Ibrahim,Robert N. Foley,Li-Ping Tan,Tyson B. Rogers,Robert F. Bailey,Hongfei Guo,Cynthia R. Gross,Arthur J. Matas +7 more
TL;DR: Survival and the risk of ESRD in carefully screened kidney donors appear to be similar to those in the general population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lessons learned from more than 1,000 pancreas transplants at a single institution.
David E.R. Sutherland,Rainer W.G. Gruessner,David L. Dunn,Arthur J. Matas,Abhinav Humar,Raja Kandaswamy,S. M. Mauer,William R. Kennedy,Frederick C. Goetz,R. P. Robertson,Angelika C. Gruessner,John S. Najarian +11 more
TL;DR: Patient and graft survival rates have significantly improved over time as surgical techniques and immunosuppressive protocols have evolved, and quality of life studies showed significant gains after the transplant in all recipient categories.
Journal ArticleDOI
20 years or more of follow-up of living kidney donors.
TL;DR: It is concluded that perioperative mortality in the USA and Canada after living-donor nephrectomy is low and in long-term follow-up of living donors, there is no evidence of progressive renal deterioration or other serious disorders.
