Yoshino,H. Zohm +56 more
TL;DR: A review of recent advances in the area of MHD stability and disruptions, since the publication of the 1999 ITER Physics Basis document (1999 Nucl. Fusion 39 2137-2664), is reviewed in this paper.

TL;DR: The understanding and predictive capability of transport physics and plasma confinement is reviewed from the perspective of achieving reactor-scale burning plasmas in the ITER tokamak, for both core and edge plasma regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics of type I ELM energy and particle losses in existing devices and their extrapolation to ITER
A. Loarte,G. Saibene,R. Sartori,David Campbell,M. Becoulet,L. D. Horton,T. Eich,Albrecht Herrmann,G. Matthews,Nobuyuki Asakura,A. V. Chankin,Anthony Leonard,G. Porter,G. Federici,G. Janeschitz,Michiya Shimada,M. Sugihara +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that ELM energy losses are correlated with the density and temperature of the pedestal plasma before the ELM crash and the timescale of ELM particle fluxes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wesley,Roscoe White,D.G. Whyte,S. Wu,M. Wykes,Leonid E. Zakharov +93 more
TL;DR: In this article, the ITER design requirements were reviewed and as appropriate updated and the focus of this paper will be on recent work affecting ITER with special emphasis on topics affecting near-term procurement arrangements.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ITER divertor concept
G. Janeschitz,K. Borrass,G. Federici,Yu. Igitkhanov,A. Kukushkin,H. D. Pacher,G.W. Pacher,M. Sugihara +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the ITER divertor must exhaust most of the alpha particle power and the He ash at acceptable erosion rates, and the plasma pressure along the field must be reduced by more than a factor 10, reducing also the target ion flux.
