TL;DR: The Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) Ocean State Report (OSR) provides an annual report of the state of the global ocean and European regional seas for policy and decision-makers with the additional aim of increasing general public awareness about the status of, and changes in, the marine environment as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bloom of the marine diazotrophic cyanobacterium Trichodesmium erythraeum in the Northwest African Upwelling
Antonio G. Ramos,Antera Martel,Geoffrey A. Codd,Emilio Soler,Josep Coca,Alex Redondo,Louise F. Morrison,James S. Metcalf,Alicia Ojeda,Sonia Suárez,Michel Petit +10 more
TL;DR: A bloom of the non-heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacterium Trichodesmium ery- thraeum Ehrenberg is reported in the Canary Islands Archipelago during August of 2004, the warmest period of a meteorological series recorded by the National Institute of Meteorology (Spain) since 1912 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
The submarine volcano eruption at the island of El Hierro: physical-chemical perturbation and biological response
Eugenio Fraile-Nuez,Melchor González-Dávila,Juana Magdalena Santana-Casiano,Javier Arístegui,Iván J. Alonso-González,Santiago Hernández-León,M. J. Laetsch,Pedro Vélez-Belchí,Antonio G. Ramos,A. Ariza,Isis Comas-Rodríguez,V.M. Benítez-Barrios +20 more
TL;DR: An initial report of the extreme physical-chemical perturbations caused by this event, comprising thermal changes, water acidification, deoxygenation and metal-enrichment, which resulted in significant alterations to the activity and composition of local plankton communities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age, growth, reproduction and mortality of the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus (Pisces, Sparidae), off the Canary Islands (Central-east Atlantic)
TL;DR: Striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus L. (n=731) caught off the Canary Islands from January 1999 to June 2000 were studied, and the species displayed protandric hermaphroditism.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Path planning for gliders using Regional Ocean Models: Application of Pinzón path planner with the ESEOAT model and the RU27 trans-Atlantic flight data
Enrique Fernandez-Perdomo,Jorge Cabrera-Gámez,Daniel Hernández-Sosa,Josep Isern-Gonzalez,Antonio C. Domínguez-Brito,Alex Redondo,Josep Coca,Antonio G. Ramos,Enrique Álvarez Fanjul,Marcos Garcia +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a vertical saw tooth route, which produces an effective but low horizontal speed for long-range missions using UAVs. But, the UAV is strongly sensitive to ocean currents, and therefore, they might have to adapt the heading to the current field.
