TL;DR: The present paper provides a description of theEPIC study, with the aim of simplifying reference to it in future papers reporting substantive or methodological studies carried out in the EPIC cohort.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variability of fish consumption within the 10 European countries participating in the European Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study
Ailsa A Welch,Eiliv Lund,Pilar Amiano,Miren Dorronsoro,Magritt Brustad,Merethe Kumle,M. Rodriguez,Cristina Lasheras,Lars Janzon,John-Olov Jansson,Robert Luben,Elizabeth A Spencer,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,J. TL;DR: Throughout Europe, substantial geographic variation exists in total fish intake, fish sub-groups and the number of types consumed, and the greatest variability in consumption by day of the week was found in the countries with the lowest fish intake.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of nutrients in the food composition tables available in the nine European countries participating in EPIC. European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition.
TL;DR: It was concluded that standardised food composition tables have to be developed for the nine European countries involved in EPIC in order to provide comparable nutrient intake data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Soy product consumption in 10 European countries: the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study.
L Keinan-Boker,Petra H.M. Peeters,Angela A. Mulligan,Carmen Navarro,Nadia Slimani,Irene Mattisson,Eva Lundin,Alison McTaggart,Naomi E. Allen,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,J. Tormo,Eva Ardanaz,Charrondière Ur,Elio Riboli +25 more
TL;DR: Although soy product intake was generally low across all countries, the highest intake level was observed in the UK, due to over-sampling of a large number of participants with an HHL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selection of a food classification system and a food composition database for future food consumption surveys.
TL;DR: It was concluded that the EFG system could be used but that still much work has to be done to harmonize food classification and food composition databases, allowing comparability of consumption at both food and nutrient levels in Europe.
